While spinning records at ACRN, I occasionally gave away a free pizza, courtesy of our sponsor, Big Red Tomato. I would ask for the 3rd/4th/5th/etc. caller, and soon after would announce a bogus winner (made up name) from Mill Street/Stimson Ave/E.State Street (also made up). Later that night my roomies and I would use the winning/stolen voucher and enjoy some delish "za". Stupid college kids.

There was a quarter page photo of me and some cops shoving me with hands and night sticks raised on the front page of the Athens Messenger the morning after the "Spring Riots" 1979. That Sunday morning, a friend came over to my dorm room, knocked on the door - and when I answered the door he had the paper held up so I would see the front page. I pretty much s*%# my pants. I was certain I was going to get kicked out of school.

I did not "participate" in the riots/ruckus, whatever they actually were (pretty much a bunch of drunk students on the street after the bars closed with a gazillion cops gathered around that pretty much guaranteed a confrontation). I went up to see what was happening expecting to just view the annual conflict. The cops came right at me on College Green, I said I was going to Stewart street to a friends house (the one who brought the paper the next day), which I was, but they just came at me and began shoving me back....I circled around and next thing I knew I was running down Jeff Hill with some others and we were then bombarded with a fusilade of knee knockers. Pretty much just shooting people in the back as they ran away......B.S. cowards and jerks.....

I was scared to death the Athens or OHIO cops would be coming by everyday to get me for couple weeks - but never happened. Whew....

Where to start...

I used to watch OSU games early in my college career since other friends did just for the social aspect. I only watch their games now if I hear they are losing. It makes my skin crawl even thinking about watching and celebrating that now.

I went home a ton of weekends my first two years of school for a girl. While that had short term benefits it eventually ended. I would kill to do those weekends in Athens over. Good news is I did a victory lap and grad school so I made up for it.

My in laws are both Akron grads. Brutal.

My wife, a fellow Bobcat, does not share the same level of love for Ohio that I do. Primarily because her academic adviser told her not to bother to apply to med school as she wouldn't get in and OU didn't give her an interview. She's not one to give up and that only motivated her. She got interviews, went to med school, finished residency, now in fellowship. She works at the National Institutes of Health training directly under one of the founding fathers of her field. Huge, Huge mistake by OUCOM. Bringing it back to me....that cost me two extra years in Athens!

I was a bartender at the CI for a little over 2 years. Best decision ever although I did have to spend Winter breaks scraping the gum off the floor when we were closed.

I had to do community service for a noise violation after one of our parties my 5th year. Never be the guy who answers the door kids. Bad decision.

I once scaled the Athens Middle school and enjoyed a case of beer on the roof with fellow bartenders as the sun came up.

I woke up on the couch in the wrong house on 2 separate occasions after too much fun on Court St.

I feel better now...

Purple Haze/Dawn!!!!! You, sir, are a saint (or merely forgetful of your actions??).
Played dorm flag football and basketball until about age 33 when they threw us out of a Grosvenor league game since none of us were registered as students.
Most other stuff would probably require Mea Maxima Culpas.

My high school buddy who is an OSU grad convinced me that since it was his wedding I should sing along to Hang On Sloopy and I agreed. My other buddy who is also an OSU grad witnessed this and I agreed to do the same at his wedding.

My Sophomore year on West Green, our RA quit one week into the school year. We went two or three weeks without an RA. Met the new RA in the CI. The entire floor was too young to be in the CI, including our new RA. That was a good year.

The summer between my Junior and Senior year, I reported the construction crew that was redoing the sewer lines on Mill Street to the police because they were violating the noise ordinance. Get off my lawn.

I've seen crazier things happen.

Junior year....T-comm Building....me and two buddies brought a case of beer to 3rd floor off-line edit suite to watch the Penguins beat the Blackhawks in game 4 of the Stanley Cup Finals and capture the series 4-0. We had an engineer pipe the game into that edit suite. I'm pretty sure we would have been in some serious trouble if we got busted drinking in a school building like that. But it was the only way for us to watch the
Pens win the cup and we had no other choice.

I also took a Coaching Basketball class taught by Larry Hunter. Gary Trent was a Freshman in the class. One day in the Convo during class I told him to just stand under the hoop and let me drive by and score. He asked me why? I said it's because I want to tell people 20 years later that I scored against an NBA player. At least I was right about that.

Freshman year...my buddy and I each got a fake OHIO school ID. Walking to Court Street, I memorized the birthday. We went to the PUB to watch the Crunch perform. Did anyone else besides the Eagles perform Hotel California better? Anyway, here we are 18 years old in a college bar for the first time drinking and then 2 beers in we both get a tap on the shoulder. It was an undercover cop. He checked our ID's and asked for us tell him our birthdays on the ID. I nailed mine...but my buddy froze and was cuffed and arrested. I ran back down Jeff Hill scared shitless and swore I'd never go back into a court street bar again until I was 21. That lasted 4 days until the next Thursday night when I returned to The Pub with my fake ID.

My wife and I live in the town Rick Derringer and the rest of The McCoys are from — which is bisected by the Ohio-Indiana border. So the DJ took it upon himself to play Hang On Sloopy at our wedding. I reluctantly did the O-H-I-O thing so I didn't look like a sourpuss at my own wedding. To tamp down the shame of it, I did the U part at the end. Almost everyone at the wedding except for my immediate family is from Northwest Indiana with no ties to the song, so most guests were all confused by the entire performance and even more confused why I was misspelling the word Ohio.

1) Still an OSU football fan...and an Ohio football fan...it is possible to live a double life.

2) I've never eaten anything from the Burrito Buggy. I never plan to.

3) Casa is overrated.

4) I like Athens better when the students are gone, and I'm nowhere near an old "get off my lawn" man.

That is classic... I did not know that is where you are staying up.... I thought he was from the Fort....12 miles from my hometown. That is our neck of the woods going back 7 generations to the 1800s. Though I am confused if you are in the home of Ghyslain or by the Obelisk to Gen St Clair. If you are in UC...well you would be smack in the middle of the "Mexican Mafia" and the pipeline of a major drug route we see effects of everyday. Would be interesting to hear if anyone from your wedding remembers it as well as you.

-My first year of college I went to Akron. My mom and dad were divorcing at it was close to home, so I decided to stick around just in case I was needed. First Akron basketball game I went to I realized I had made a terrible decision. Those Hipshers...ugh. Pulled a Bubba Walther and got the hell out of there.

-I hate Ohio State, but god damnit Urban Meyer can coach football. Respect, bro.

-I went to the Belmont Bracketbuster game in Nashville a couple years ago where our team decided not to show up. I left the game at halftime. Told my then girlfriend "if they don't feel like playing, I don't feel like watching, lets go drink beer."

-It is the year 2017 and I still have never been Miller's Chicken. I've also been to probably every bar in Athens at least once...but never, ever The Crystal.

-I don't drink coffee. At all. Fight me.

-The night of the OU/Pitt football game in 2005, I was walking the old Bobcat/Mouse mascot around the stadium to interact with the fans. Basically, I was in charge of escorting him/her so they didn't fall down steps or get picked on by little kids they couldn't see.

Anyway, the girl they had in charge of donning the mascot outfit had been partying the entire day before that point. She wore the suit for the first quarter and said "I'm going to be sick." Took her outside Peden Stadium on the opposite side of the Tower and she vomited all over the parking lot. Thankfully she got the head off in time. There were a couple fans walking past who jokingly said "looks like The Bobcat has been partying too much." We had to call a replacement who unbelievably was not grossed out by it. I wish I would have gotten her number because that kind of dedication I want in a wife.

This is the greatest thread in the history of Bobcat Attack. I encourage the monitors to pin this up top so it doesn't go away and people can add confessions at any time. #SimplyBrilliant

We did this at my wedding. The wife's family are a bunch of osu homers, so we absolutley HAD to play Hang on Sloopy, because of course we did. Anyhoo, the Bobcats had fun outshouting them with the "U" after O-H-I-O.

Then we played SUAC, and all the osu fans were angry that I wouldn't let the DJ play osu's fight song in response.

(In keeping with the theme of the confessional, my wedding was on Homecoming. The only Homecoming I've missed since graduation too...we beat Fiami 28-7 that day, and I almost got in trouble because I was checking the score as the processional started.)

Fall quarter freshman year I fell in love with my English Comp teacher. She was an assistant prof. I asked her out for coffee. Yada, yada, I never tried that again.

Adding to the many confessions involving the evil empire:

My wife's youngest sister, a naive and somewhat ignorant freshman at o$u at the time, gave my 2-year-old daughter an o$u cheerleader outfit for a Christmas gift about 15 years ago. I bit my tongue as this took place at my in-laws' house. However, I soon as we got in the car, I told my wife that our daughter will never wear that outfit (and she didn't).

That daughter will be a freshman at Ohio University in about 3 months.

These songs (obviously not Stand up and Cheer) were expressly banned at my wedding. So was the Electric Slide.

1. I once agreed with Monroe in a thread on the football message board.

2. I own (via 5-finger discount) a set of 3 aquariums from the Pub and will still occasionally fill them up.

3. I once gave Chad Estis and inappropriate bro-hug after seeing him on Court Street the night after a basketball victory. See #2 above for the reason why that probably occurred.

4. In 1994, I had the cops called on me because I was barking on my balcony at Lakeview apartments at 1:00 a.m. after the Browns beat the 49ers on Monday Night football

Off topic... but the number of bars in Nashville has probably already doubled since then. Ever seen the pure extract of the hottest group from a sorority on a "pedal tavern" - ? If not, come back between May and October sometime.

Since I can party anytime in Nashville, I stayed and subjected myself to watching that sorry excuse for a game. It was obvious Jim C. couldn't coach his way out of a paper bag compared to Rick Byrd of Belmont.

I'm narcing on another Bobcat who is related to my wife.

About eight years ago we attended a wedding in Columbus between TWO Ohio university alums. The hall was decked out in Scarlet & Gray and Sloopy was played multiple times that night. They since have had a few kids and routinely send out Christmas card pics of the entire family sporting OSU gear.

Talk about self loathing.

1. The big one: I attended Oxford Tech for two years before I came to my senses and transferred to OU.

2. What's more alarming about statement 1 is that OU was a birthright. My dad, brother, aunt, grandmother, first cousin and many other family members all matriculated in Athens.

3. I got thrown out of the Union for underage drinking during a concert. (It was Tributary, a friend's band.) How dumb was this: I was marked low, but a friend got me a beer, and during the first song I got excited and raised my hand with the beer -- in tribute, I guess. The bouncer saw a hand with an "X" on it holding a beer up in the air.

4. During the Shuffle, I got tossed from the Pub for swiping a beer from the fridge area (halfway back on the right). Still had the unopened beer in my hand, so I went to Tony's and had the bartenders open it there.

5. I lived in Scott Quad, and my roommate and I were tossing stuff out our open window. He missed the opening and broke the window. In the middle of the night, we took out our whole window and swapped it with one in the communal study room down the hall.
