Craig Neal out of work. Rumours of Tim Miles/Nebraska possibility

Not sure who wants Nebraska but Neal and Alford were close.

Neal is an Indiana product...will be interesting to see if he ends up back in the MW

New Mexico hired the head coach at New Mexico State so NMSU replaced him with former Bowling Green head coach Chris Jans.

Jans takes over a team that won 28 games last year and returns 4 starters. Lucky to have a second chance, hope he's learned his lesson.

If he's learned his lesson, I think this will be a great hire for NMSU. Jans I thought had the potential to take BG to the next level and showed that his teams wouldn't go down without a fight when he was there.

Hey guys, been reading this site for a few months now as I recently took an interest in OU hoops this year, as I have a sibling who is a Freshman at OU. Been really impressed with the fan support and activity on these boards. Meanwhile, been meaning to jump in and start posting for a while and this seemed like a good place to start.

Do you guys think Bowling Green made the right call to fire Jans? I personally have mixed feelings on the issue and am interested to see what others think.

Aside from the off court business, in his 1 season at BG, Jans brought his hard nosed defensive hustle style basketball to BG, and seemed to be really changing the culture of the program. Jans led the Falcons to their first 20 win season since 2002 when Dan Dakich was the head man. I really think if Jans had been able to stick around in BG, he would have had them in the NCAA in 3-5 years time, ending the long drought that has lasted since 1968.

Anyways, good luck to Coach Jans, and I hope he's learned his lesson as he seems to be a fine basketball coach. Great hire by NMSU in my opinion and great situation for Jans coming into a program that has had much recent success. I can easily see him making a couple NCAA tournaments and having a high major job in a few years.

Looking forward to contributing more on here in the future.

As a NW Ohio native, it was definitely refreshing to see the life that Jans brought to that program. He was a coach who could have turned them back into a contender in a hurry. That said, if this would have happened 10 years ago before the cell phone as we know it now, he could have gotten away with it. But now that this stuff is front and center, I think BG had to do what it had to do or have every women's group barking at their door. I hate this day and age, but BG made the call that they had to.

I'm honestly surprised that he's already getting another shot. If it was just the poor judgement of getting trashed at a local bar, I think he could have survived it with a reprimand and moved on (see: Solich, Frank). Throw in creepy hitting on women less than half his age, and top the sundae with the cherry of sexual assault (by the letter of the law, unwanted touching qualifies) when he groped at least one woman and you gotta fire that guy. Coaching skills are no longer part of the equation.

I'm with RecovJourn here. They had to. And in this day and age, if you're not smart enough as one of the 2-3 highest profile guys in a small college town to know not to do that, it's on you. Anyone with a brain in 2015 to the present knows that cameras are everywhere, and if you do something dumb in public, it's on camera.

I'm not one to say he doesn't deserve a second chance, but for he and his family's sake, I hope he knows there probably won't be a third if he repeats the actions from BG.

One thing to consider with Jans at BG is that he walked into a scenario where he had a MAC POY candidate and NBA player on the roster, and a solid roster. He added to it with JUCO transfers to create a better, older roster. The real question is whether or not he can build and sustain a program over several seasons.
