Wow did NOT see that one coming. Archie had turned down offers in the past. Didn't think Indiana would be a draw for him - guess I was wrong.

Now, let the JG to UD rumors begin (I can wish!)

Edit to say - the timing of Archie leaving isn't a surprise though. He's been an "in demand" name on many a short list for a couple seasons now - and this way he's going out at UD with his senior class.

Some chatter on UD boards about giving the job to Coach Kuwik in hopes of maintaining continuity to avoid mass transfer exodus and/or incoming recruiting class (I'd be in full support of this too).

Pat Kelsey, John Groce, Keith Dambrot, Kevin Kuwik, Greg Paulus are all options for Dayton.

I'm in NO way convinced Dambrot wants to be anywhere except Akron. I think he knows he can't duplicate what he has accomplished and the leeway he has at Akron. I think he feels he is well paid there and at this stage of his life he thinks the grass is quite green exactly where he's at.

His Twitter account has proved that he'll at least entertain offers, so Akron leaves something to be desired. Right after MAC champ game, he tweeted something that was obviously meant to be a DM, something that looked to be him relaying an offer to his agent. It was up then deleted within minutes.. But we screen-capped just in case.

these flirtations with other offers are just to drive up his price at Akron, nothing more.

Greg Paulus ain't even close to ready for being a head coach. There's a lot of dislike towards him from boosters and fans there in the land of the evil empire.

That said, I argue this is one of the top 25 jobs in the country. A truly dedicated school to basketball, great fanbase, and a fertile recruiting territory that is spelled out to every coach that ends up there. It's a job that pays well and normally takes care of its coaches quite well. Hopefully Dayton finds someone that can continue it's strong tradition.

Yeah. I really would not want to have them have to suffer through a period like the Purnell, Gregory succession of years again. That fanbase is better than that.

What did the tweet say specifically? Missed that. And why would a coach/agent even discuss business through private twitter DMs? So stupid.

Wow. wonder where they were alluding to? I miss BBState and it's easy to reference salaries. If Saul is the highest paid guy here supposedly by far where is Keith currently? Ferry was a 600K with Dusq. Not sure what job he and the agent were alluding to. GOt to wonder where the rest of the A10 is....progs like Fordham and such you would not think would be in the 500 and above would you?

Jeff Boals seemed to do very well in his first year at Stony Brook. Wonder if he wishes he stuck around OSU. Seems like his name would be in the mix for Dayton if he had.

Except he didn't know the Dayton job would open up. He wanted to be a head coach, the Stonybrook job opened up, obviously he took it. BTW, it's a great mid-major job - top 2-3 in the America East, with a new, top facility for it's conference.

Listening to Archie's introductory presser at IU. I hope that it works out well for him there. I hope the expectations aren't higher than the reality of how long it might take to get to those expectations.

At least the recruiting situation isn't a bare cupboard to start from like it was for Crean.

He was supposedly entertaining an offer from USF at the time.

My attitude has changed so much on this stuff.

Archie is going to make $21 million. Or $3 million per year plus the severance if they fire him before 7 years is up.

In these cases, I only hope he had a solid financial advisor and listens well.

As for the program... whatever... he will make them like Duke or he won't. And if not, they will fire him and move on. And, he'll be fine as long as he has a solid financial advisor.

Folks round here would just like it if he would make them "Indiana" again.

They started losing recruits a while back and have watched a long list of players from Oden and Conley back in 06 to this year's media sweetheart McIntosh at Northwestern and Bane at TCU occupy TV time on other teams without ever having got an offer from IU.

Like most of those Miami/Sendeck tree guys....the first order of the day is "secure the borders" and recruit from within....he did that at Dayton as did Groce when he came in... look at the guys in that tree and they all build strong local ties. If Archie keeps homegrown guys here he will do well

I was surprised by his speaking demeanor. He is a lot less polished than I expected

Lots of chatter around Dayton yesterday and today about our old friend Kevin Kuwik getting promoted to the UD job.

Crazy to think he left Athens in 2008 after we let TOS go, but has been at UD since 2011 when they originally hired Archie. Time flies.
