Hmmmm......who's been saying that??^^^^^^^^^^^
We just lost 15-18 points per game heading into next season and most likely the player of the year in the conference. Saul had to know 2 was a goner, which makes our recent add more puzzling.

How can you justify needing a big now when we just lost our best player who was a PG?

And people just crushed me on this board yesterday for saying the signing made no sense....before Simmons left!!! And Saul knew he was a goner.

Whether or not you like the last signing is irrelevant. Simmons leaving actually makes that signing make more sense. Before, it was assumed to be our last scholarship, but now we know we still have one open to grab another guard.

Agreed.

With Simmons departure, this makes MORE sense not less. Without Mickle, we'd only have 1 senior on roster after Jaaron leaves. I'll save the explanation on what people are missing with Mickle for his recruiting thread...

I've seen crazier things happen.

It's a real problem for all mid majors. Grad transfers absolutely decimated Cleveland State 2 years ago, and hastened the departure of coach Gary Waters. I have not read quotes from Jaaron, but I wonder if knowing the MAC is and will be for the foreseeable future a 1 bid league had much to do with this. He can go to Michigan, finish 5th in the league or lower and play in March.

I hope this doesn't lead to other kids transferring, even though they'd have to sit a year. Maybe not now, but at some future point. When your leader bails, it has to cross your mind.

Saul is facing a real test now because of the leadership void. Also, I wonder now if you change your policy about accepting undergrad transfers, or you just now plan for the fact that you'll have one less year with the kid than you have in the past. If he doesn't grad transfer, well then it's a bonus.

I hate being a mid major, and I fear things are only gonna get worse for the MAC and similar conferences.

Yes Cleveland lost Anton Grady to Wichita State, Trey Lewis to Louisville and Bryn Forbes on a hardship transfer. They lost three all conference players, the NCAA needs to modify this rule.

Nobody despises to lose more than I do. That's got me into trouble over the years, but it also made a man of mediocre ability into a pretty good coach. Woody Hayes

You get a senior that has had success, nice moral though.

Simmons is getting a degree in "Specialized Studies" with a "concentration" in management and communications.

From reading the degree's description on O.U.'s website it would seem that this program would allow someone to get a degree, with very limited value in the "real world" and little appeal to a grad school, especially at a highly rated academic institution like Michigan.

Wonder what his major will be and whether he had take the GSAT ?

Whatever his degree is in, he did it in four years and that included starting at another school. I'm not happy he is leaving us at the altar but I applaud the heck about his ability to hold up his end of the deal academically. And from all accounts he's a really good kid. Don't like or agree with his decision but he certainly earned the right to make it.

I don't have any issue with Mr. Simmons.I'm also not happy about his desicion, but its his to make.

What I'm saying is that,if it wasn't for B.B.,I don't know if he'd get into graduate school at Michigan.

Agree with you. I think it's not good to rip Ohio players like some are doing above. Seems to be putting down our institution as well as the player.

If you saw my follow up post,my issue isn't with Mr.Simmons.Its how schools seem willing to bend academic rules if/when it suits their needs in certain athletic programs.
Its nothing new,I know, but it still bothers me.

How do you know any academic rules were "bent". You have no clue what his academic credentials are in comparisons to the admission standards at Michigan are, nor do you know his standardized test status and scores. All conjecture and in a manner that disparages the young man who fulfilled his obligations to Ohio University, he came here and he got his degree. Well done young man! And thank you for a couple of great years on the court!

Relative to Jaaron's declaration for the draft, here are some numbers for this year:

@BobbyMarks42: NBA announces that 182 early entry players including 137 college players have declared. Remember there is only 2 rounds and 60 picks.

Mr. Simmons got his degree.

As far as his "obligation" to O.U.,I'm sure, when he was recruited, it wasn't with the understanding that he would leave for another program with one year of eligibility left.

I never said Michigan bent any academic rules for Mr. Simmons.
But I wouldn't be surprised if they did.

When I went to O.U.,the S.S. degree was about the easiest O.U. offered.

I actually looked into it because, at the time, I was a dual engineering/pre vet major.
I thought that,if I went for the S.S. degree, I could take more technical electives.

My advisor was blunt.
He said "Don't even think about it.The degree is nothing but a minefield".
He said it was set up just so people could say they got a degree, but that, other then that,it wasn't much use.

Unless things have changed dramatically, this degree doesn't seem like it would put you on a path to graduate school.

As I posted in another thread, the NCAA touts how many athletes get degrees. But they don't say what they're in or what of what value they are.

Saw this last night. From a Bobcat perspective, given the amount of talk he got on here, it's sort of interesting that he ends up where the former coach just left.
