Is Saul Phillips MAC Coach of the Year?

Given the way the season has unfolded I say yes.

Its an interesting question.
I don't know the criteria for making the Coach OF The Year selection.

There's no question, the team responded well after losing their star player.
But,if you look at the season in its entirety, they had some bad losses with their best player still on the court.

We were predicted to be a close second to Akron in the East.Right now,we're not that close.

I think a lot will depend on how we do in the MAC Tournament.

Right now I definitely think it's Saul. Still need to finish strong with a few more wins. Hell, win out and it should be his. James Whitford perhaps deserves some attention as well. Dambrot, always in the mix, and depending on how Buffalo and Kent finish you could see Senderoff or Oats make a case.

What a day at the Convo.....Wow!

I dunno... I wouldn't call 2 games back "not that close". Who knows how close they'll finish though.

Also, they announce the winner during the MAC tournament. Last year it was the day between the first round and the quarterfinals in Cleveland.

Guess its a matter of perspective.
To me,2 games back, with only 3 to play isn't that close.

Interesting that we both close out the schedule against the same teams.
They have 1 home game,we have 2,which could help us.

Have to see how we finish up these last 3 games.

If the season ended today, I would say yes as well.

Yes, and as soon as John Groce is let go by Illinois Saul's out on the street.

j/k

Two weeks ago I thought it would be Dambrot but things change quickly around here. Saul has definitely inserted himself into the conversation with the way the team has played recently. Another darkhorse candidate is Steve Hawkins who has the Broncos on a roll. They are a game out of first in the West after starting the year 6-14,2-6 and could be tied for first after Saturday when they host Ball State.

Well I certainly hope we continue the streak, make a run a la 2012, and Coach Phillips gets the award.

However, if Coach Dambrot doesn't get in the Big Dance again this year, they just might have to start a new award; The Could Have Should Have Award. Think about it, the highly vaunted Coach Dambrot has exactly the same number of NCAA tournament wins as does Coach O'Shea, but Coach Dambrot has more losses.
