Such a bummer Carter and Campbell are not on the court together. We coulda had a "big three" this year.....

Intriguing thought, but I'm not so sure how many more minutes JC would be getting if Tone were healthy. Would his minutes have gone up from what he was already getting before Tone injury? The only silver lining with the Tone injury is that we truly know what we have on our hands with Carter now moving forward.

Believe me I am glad that I am pleasantly surprised about Jason, but let's face it the Licking County League isn't the Columbus City League or Columbus Catholic League. You don't have that kind of competition, especially from big men that you would get in those leagues.

Plus Rick Hoffman was from Findlay and they might have played in the old Buckeye Conference which had some serious talent back in the day. Also, even Rich Stanfel was from suburban Chicago and played in a league where he would have played some stellar competition. The word "potential" was often used with those guys. Again not trying to knock them they just didn't have the tools, but they did put up decent numbers against decent competition in high school. Again, here's hoping Jason continually improves and stays healthy!

Maybe, Cat Fan, but I saw him play against DeSales of the Catholic League, where he ate up their big man Caden Sanchez, and Columbus South in the tourney last year where he outrebounded the entire South team and blocked at least a half dozen shots. BTW, most of the kids on that South team are on this year's squad that just won the City League championship. My evaluations of Jason after each game were posted in his recruiting thread.

Sorry I missed your post on the recruiting thread. Believe me I am glad that I am pleasantly surprised. I am an optimist by nature, but my skepticism was born out of many hopes dashed. Again, I hope Jason continues his great play, gets even better and stays healthy!

I am equally impressed with the emergence of Mike Laster. Good for him - he obviously was working hard on his game all along and waiting for an opportunity.

I was thinking the same thing. His emergence is absolutely huge because he excels against the defenses that teams have employed to take away Kenny and Jordan. Laster and Carter are doing a great job of putting the ball on the floor and getting to the hoop with the extra space in the lane created by teams over-playing our shooters.

Agree.

I'm sticking by the comment I made back in December, and repeated a few times since, this kid if he stays healthy is going to be an All American by his senior year. I'm no great analyzer of basketball talent, but there was something about his combination of athleticism and basketball savvy (or BBIQ, as some would call it) that really impressed me early on. He also has more poise for a freshman than I've seen in a long time. To use our former football coach Brian Burke's much-overused expression, "Super Impressed."

Last year Saul had a good season on the backs of transfers and TC a guy recruited by a different coach. He's showing with Carter this year he knows how to identify talent to fit his style of play. Reminds me a lot of the Groce years where we improved as the year moved along to be on a tear Cleveland time.

Most Memorable Bobcat Events Attended
2010 97-83 win over Georgetown in NCAA 1st round
2012 45-13 victory over ULM in the Independence Bowl
2015 34-3 drubbing of Miami @ Peden front of 25,086

He had already established a track record of being able to do that at NDSU.

You don't think last year's freshmen were signs of that as well, particularly Jordan Dartis and Gavin Block? His system requires players who play with their heads up and he is filling the roster with those types of players.

I went to the recruiting board and noted all the players who Saul offered from the HS class of 2016.

Carson Williams - Northern Kentucky - major contributor for them.
Lapear Toles - Reclassed to 2017
Desmond Bane - TCU - 20 minutes a game for a P5 school
Maishe Dailey - Iowa - 8.2 minutes a game for a P5 school
Andy Lucien - Cleveland State - looks like he's redshirting
Aaron Cook - Southern Illinois - 11 minutes a game
Darius Harper - Miami - started against us the other night but doesn't usually. Part of their rotation though.
Maliek White - Providence - 11.2 minutes for Big East school
Ibi Watson - Michigan - End of the bench guy currently
Seth Townes - Harvard - Starter and major contributor for stupid team.
Micah Potter - Ohio State - One of the first off the bench. 13.6 minutes a game.
Shakem Johnson - Vincennes - didn't feel like digging to see how he's doing
Omari Spellman - Villanova - looks like he's redshirting for the National Champs
Howard Washington - Originally signed with Butler but opted to reclass and in prep school.

I remember a lot of complaints on the recruiting board about Saul aiming low on recruits but this is a pretty impressive list of guys who we were going after.

I actually choked on that one. Thought of saying "for Ohio on the Charles" after I hit enter.

Of all the guys on that list you shared Van, I really, really hoped Seth Towns was going to end up at Ohio.
