If he can stay on the floor in March, we are going to have a chance to win this thing in Cleveland. He just needs to stay out of foul trouble. Love how this team is playing and the offensive emergence of Laster is huge.

The Baby Face Assassin is just ridiculously good. Forget the points and the rebounds against Miami. You know what impressed me more tonight? The skip pass to Dartis in the first half for the open "3". The late, great UGA football announcer Larry Munson said this once about Herschel Walker..."My god a Freshman".

I am starting to say the same about Jason Carter.

Carter looked unreal tonight. Granted, it's Miami...but to think that he could be getting better over the next 3 years is really exciting.

This kid just goes about business as usual. Think about Saul's recruits (not counting transfers). Darty starts as a freshman. Carter starts as a freshman. Block starts as a sophomore. Doug key bench as a sophomore. Laster starts as a freshman and is literally Sixth Man of the Year this year. There are indications that all 3 of next year's guys could contribute. Love Saul. Love his recruits. Love that JC should be Freshman of the Year but won't be because he was brought along slowly at first. Weathers is solid but this kid is gold. Thank you again Thad Five for whiffing on Ohio talent yet again.

I saw Jarron play in high school, I knew he was the real deal and was excited when he transferred. However, Jason has got to be the biggest surprise big man since I don't know when. Guys like Gary Trent came highly advertised and eagerly anticipated. Some of us Bobcats of a certain age remember guys with "potential" like Rick Hoffman and Rich Stanfel, not a knock on those guys because they just didn't have the tools, even though they had the height. So whenever we hear of a big man who has "potential," we naturally think it will never happen. Jason is such a pleasant surprise. I hope he continually improves and stays healthy.

I hear ya Cbus...I witnessed the Rick Hoffman era and potential never entered my mind. Not when a 7 footer weighs 121 pounds. I think Jason Terry would be a better example. Dude should have put up better numbers.

Believe me I am glad that I am pleasantly surprised about Jason, but let's face it the Licking County League isn't the Columbus City League or Columbus Catholic League. You don't have that kind of competition, especially from big men that you would get in those leagues.

Plus Rick Hoffman was from Findlay and they might have played in the old Buckeye Conference which had some serious talent back in the day. Also, even Rich Stanfel was from suburban Chicago and played in a league where he would have played some stellar competition. The word "potential" was often used with those guys. Again not trying to knock them they just didn't have the tools, but they did put up decent numbers against decent competition in high school. Again, here's hoping Jason continually improves and stays healthy!

The "ability" and "determination" in HS was obvious. Good recruiting.....

Baby Face Assassin has made 20 of his last 25 FG attempts.

They played tough competition in their out of conference games. Plus, Jason played AAU ball.

Agreed, Jeff. Those of us in the Cbus area who saw him play in high school, knew about his bloodlines, etc. could see there was an excellent chance of him becoming , as the network analysts say, a "special" player.

Maybe, Cat Fan, but I saw him play against DeSales of the Catholic League, where he ate up their big man Caden Sanchez, and Columbus South in the tourney last year where he outrebounded the entire South team and blocked at least a half dozen shots. BTW, most of the kids on that South team are on this year's squad that just won the City League championship. My evaluations of Jason after each game were posted in his recruiting thread.

I am equally impressed with the emergence of Mike Laster. Good for him - he obviously was working hard on his game all along and waiting for an opportunity.

I belive big Tone said during the preseason that he thought Carter was a future MAC POTY. I was encouraged but thought that statement might have been a bit premature considering he had never played a DI game. Perhaps Tone will be right. After seeing Carter's emergence, I have no doubt he will be first team all MAC at some point and certainly could become POTY during his career. He has certainly surpassed my expectations.

I was thinking the same thing. His emergence is absolutely huge because he excels against the defenses that teams have employed to take away Kenny and Jordan. Laster and Carter are doing a great job of putting the ball on the floor and getting to the hoop with the extra space in the lane created by teams over-playing our shooters.

Really liking when teams go to a zone that Mike is the one flashing to the middle to disrupt the D. Usually the quicker guys are on the outside, so if Mike is the one flashing middle as a "point forward" to initiate the offense, he can beat the slower defenders clogging the middle to the rim. He had an amazing drive and dish to Jason last night that they both worked to perfection to bust the D.

Excellent point and observation. It has changed our team's look on offense for the better when it needed to be done.
