I wonder if they have done the engineering study yet for hanging a scoreboard.

That's almost as closely guarded secret as who is our one-and-done mystery QB for the football team next fall. ;-)

Apparently they have - since it is well sourced common knowledge that it's going in next year

Yeah, I read that too fast. Some of the low- and no-cost ideas here are pretty great, but the thing that keeps our big, beautiful arena from feeling big-time is the fact that it's not even easy to see the score sometimes. Every other MAC arena I've been to has proper video boards and visible scoreboards that contain actual information about play on the court. The placement of our scoreboards sucked in 1968 and the quality of them was surpassed even before they were installed.

No one would notice any of the aesthetic issues if they were watching a replay or seeing how many fouls and points a key player had.

Disagree re: the scoreboards! There will be more bit$$ing after a hanging scoreboard goes in in my thinking. Unless you sit above the concourse walkway, which most don't anymore, you'll never look at that board! It will be too high for those in the lower bowl and on the floor for sure. I went to the osu/wcu game, sat low and broke my neck to try and see that center board. Could not do it! To make matters worse it was hard to catch the score on their ribbon board. I had to keep looking to figure out who's score I was looking at. Just don't buy, from experience, that this hanging board is gonna be a real boost to your wants.

I've never heard that "common knowledge" either.

As far as it being a bother for those sitting low. They could easily still use those corner boards and make them scoreboards on all four corners. Keep the regular scores on two corners...make the two "video" boards a running box score so you can see everyone on the floor's point/rebound totals throughout the game.

Simple fix to appease everyone.

I don't see it. Every time I've sat low in a MAC arena, I've only envied the hanging scoreboard. That includes being in the first three rows at Kent State and EMU. EMU's scoreboard is particularly nice. Kent keeps their video in the corners, but has a hanging board with a ton of stats. I'd take either of those setups over the garbage we have now.

Organization doesn't cost money. Coming up with smooth gameday event planning with current staff in place should not be that tough.

Stuff like having the band play AFTER Lou finishes on the PA mic instead of over top of him.

It's a very disjointed, stale feel at a game. While I agree money is needed for some of the cosmetic upgrades, the planning portion could be a lot better.

When would the band play then? Between the promotional events on the floor and Lou having to be a pitchman for 10 different companies and announce future events, the band may as well stay home.

I just received my OhioToday in the mail. There is a huge article on "The Most Exciting Band In The Land". Why would we feature anything else? That's like putting Tony on the end of the bench.

We are not going to see a live band. We're going to a basketball game. This is one opinion out of 3,000 to 10,000 people in the building at a given time. Again, not everyone feels like the Marching 110 should play at every possible stoppage in play. Frankly, I think only OU fans care this much about a pep band at a basketball game. I would be curious to know if younger fans and current students agree with you.

I agree here. We can't bend our necks and eyes up thirty degrees to see a big board? The amount that a center court scoreboard like UB had last night could add to the gameday from beginning to end can't be underestimated. It only takes a quick trip to a building that has one, and uses it well to see that. And it seems like it should be able to help generate some additional revenue as well.

I hope we get one, but it also needs to be used well, and needs to be part of pre-games, the TV time out 'promotions', etc. Otherwise, it's just a big expensive scoreboard with a nice LED TV in it.

If I was asked, which I haven't been, I would request that the 110 play the Doobie Brothers' "Long Train Running" during the last or next-to-last media time out at every game. This is something they used to do, but not so much recently. There is nothing like an almost-packed Convo with the 110 playing this standard late in a close game.

I think you're right - they used to play it at the under-4. Have they not recently? I can't recall. I agree that should be a staple/standard.

I'm wondering if hanging scoreboards are a bad investment given the projection systems that will likely be in existence within 10 years. A holographic scoreboard will make those things obsolete so fast.

The budget for that was used up for hard wiring every room in the old Baker Center with Ethernet cable and jacks in the late 90s. It has not yet been replenished.

I definitely think adding some more visuals showcasing our history and achievements by both teams and individuals would only boost our efforts in recruiting. Most of us on here know our strong hoops history inside and out but a recruit from say Richmond, Virginia may have barely heard of Ohio prior to receiving an interest letter or phone call from a recruiter. Walking past a long line of both black and white and color photos from many eras would hopefully catch his or her attention and make them think "wow this must be a special place with a lot of history!" Walking past a collection of NBA jerseys but then maybe also some features showing graduates who are now successful in the corporate world would be neat too. Eye candy seems to be more important than ever these days, especially for impressionable teenagers.

I've noticed that the timeout activities have been pretty disorganized this year also. It was especially noticeable Friday night. Seems like something that can pretty easily be fixed. I know they have an agenda of how things will go before the game. Maybe the communication during the game is lacking?

Also, what's with a security person checking your ticket after you get scanned, but BEFORE you enter the seating area? Overkill? We already have a yellow coat at EVERY entrance around the Convo. What does this extra person even do? They tell us we are going into the right entrance? So if they make us go in another opening, what's keeping us from walking around once we get inside? makes ZERO sense to me.

I've mentioned this many times, but I personally think they should put in 2 board at the ends. Take out the steep area of the seats of 2 sections on each end. I'm guessing we would lose no more than 500 seats. Would be much cheaper than a big honky hanging scoreboard. I like the open feel of the Convo, that you can see any seat from any other seat and all the open air. Put a good use to the dead space on the ends, an easy glance for anyone anywhere in the stadium.

Because I always assumed it to be more cost effective, I have generally agreed this was the way to go. Back when it was in use, Cole Fieldhouse had these. Of course that was before the era of HD screens, but I always thought they looked good in those spots.

Dear God, what is the average age of the posters on this board?!? There are so many "get off my lawn" posts it's nauseating. We need a freaking hanging scoreboard and a number of other things to attract RECRUITS, first and foremost. Not having one is bush league and now that almost everyone has a good video board of some kind, it's a recruiting disadvantage for us. So, who cares if you can't see the score because the score won't be something you'll want to be looking at if we don't keep up and stay competitive...and I'm not even referring to arms race type stuff...a hanging scoreboard is a necessity, not a luxury at this point.

Seems you are the get off my lawn guy, the original two post here are clearly in reference to the fact that someone on here will bitch about anything. For Godsake we've had books written on hand dryers, color of the tiles in the bathrooms, pretzels, and the decor of block walls. So yeah, someone will bitch about new scoreboards.

My, my! I'm looking forward to all those big time recruits that board is gonna bring in! We better figure out how to hang one in Peden, too. It's the answer to all our troubles.
Did we actually go to the sweet sixteen without a hanging board? Oh and what the hell does age of poster have to do with it? Younger people believe older people are clueless and older people know you will end up there someday! Sooner than you think.

Jeesh - major face palm....

The hanging scoreboard key advantages are:

-Better view for EVERYONE to see the score, players on court point/fouls, stats etc., etc. And the player stats STAY on the board - unlike the 4 corners crap we got now where those stats disappear in a FLASH.

-FULL game stats on some time outs and halftime. As opposed to the pieces of paper stats that seem to randomly be available to some lower bowl/Rohr room through the game and then left lying all around after....

-Better game experience ATMOSPHERE. Visual, Audio, etc.

-A HUGE improvement to team intro's start of every game. WTH, put that Charlie Coles "and that Ozone is gonna be jumpin'" spot on there for EVERY Game!

-Instant REPLAY of big plays. Wanna pump up the crowd - well jeesh - this is so like 20 years ago! And the PLAYERS WANT THAT/LOVE THAT! (And so do recruits for those not getting that angle)

-More income opportunities - Sponsor spots on the structure, and Ads All GAME LONG. And maybe some of them with some humour and entertaining.

-Get the crowd MORE ENGAGED. Instead of prodding from Lou to "Stand for Defense" - MAKE NOISE flashing images on a screen that ALL Can See. DEFENSE, DEFENSE (yeah - like you hear everywhere else with video prompts).

-OU, Oh Yeah - Well the prompt to start is even better.

-Less inane on court/buzz kill promos.

-Kiss cam. OZONE cam. Attack Cat cam (imagine the posing and performing - sponsored by BA???). Do you know where you are cam/AKA Not In OUr house cam - showing visiting team fans - sponsored by Google maps?. Cheerleader cam (so we know we have some). Court Street cam (right after Lou announces "TWO MINUTES, TWO MINUTES"). Got lost on the way to the library cam. Should Nelsonville bypass Highway Patrol cam (or fake map of where they are hiding before you leave for the drive home and get nailed with an additional "contribution" for coming to Athens). Security cam (yellow jacket dude on ramp outside with no one in sight anywhere around him, 3 or 4 in yellow jackets at the turnstiles with no one in sight up and down the outer hall, gal in yellow jacket at a concourse entrance picking her nose with nothing better to do, etc......loads of laughs). The 110 can be playing while any of these "cams" are going......

-LAVA CAKE - LARGE and mouthwatering image.....

And that's just quick typing without thinking about it too much.......
