Not sure why people appear to be panicking. This team will be good. Saul knows what he has. I give us 3 wins just from coaching. Hang in there!

What message board are you reading where you see panic? Seems a lot more level headed around here than I expected. I see disappointment but not a whole lot of panic.

Totally agree. Hopefully Marshall was a blip (defensively)

This team is good. I just hope they're next level good (NCAA Tourney with wins)

Unfortunately our schedule doesn't allow us to find out how we stack up with NCAA caliber teams.

The next two real tests will be at Iona & at WKU. Two decent winnable road games.

Marshall..Western...Iona...Georgia Tech. My goal was 3-1 during that stretch. Still attainable indeed.

Iona looks to be the best team on the schedule. Won the Alaska Shootout tournament.

WKU does not look to be as good as advertised...some bad, blow-outs losses.

Looks like heading into the real season we will have one or two losses against an ok non-conference schedule.

Agree on WKU. Boy did I call that wrong when the schedule was released. Next year though, they should be pretty darn good when they come to Athens.

To be bluntly honest...there is really no reason I can see that this team doesn't enter the MAC tourney with more than 4-5 losses overall. With Iona and WKU looking like two very winnable games....I can't see Ohio losing at home to pretty below average Cleve St and Milwaukee.

I think we'll all come to regret that Marshall loss down the road and wish we had that one back.

As we know, life on the road in the MAC isn't always easy...so I'm allowing for a few slip-ups there.....

But honestly....we went 15-1 in the MAC a few years ago.....and this team should really challenge that mark.

UB seems to be down. Roadies at WMU and EMU will always be a challenge as well as at Kent/Kron.

Assuming Ohio stays healthy...this might go down as one of the most successful regular season records in school history.

Sadly....with the weakness of the OOC sked.....it won't do one bit of good come March.

Still need to take care of business for three days in Cleveland.

First off, we went 14-2, but the MAC was considerably weaker in 2013. Six teams, or a full half of the league had a KenPom ranking of 200+. We have two teams above 200 this year. If we end up with 4 or 5 losses I will be ecstatic. Iona may be winnable but it's also very losable. We will not be favored there.

WKU has enough talent to be dangerous. They just lost by only five at Missouri.

Sorry...was trying to forget we lost three times to Akron that year. You're right...14-2 in 2013.

Still....

Iona (RPI of 118, KenPom 108) has a Sagarin ranking very similar to Marshall's (RPI of 78, KenPom 130). Considering we were favored at Marshall (or even a one-point underdog before Thompson was ruled out) we'll probably be a PK or less than a 3-pt dog at Iona.

They have three losses by 15, 21 and 16 points already against FSU, Nevada and Niagara.

Not exactly murderer's row. Yes, FSU is ranked...but Nevada (even on a neutral court) shouldn't be that much better than Ohio for them to lose by 15. (The 16-point home loss to Niagara is very puzzling)

WKU has a really low Sagarin number (RPI 300+, KenPom 228) and will coming off a six-game road trip against some pretty good teams. We should be able to take advantage of a tired team playing in a student-less Diddle Arena close to Xmas. They have been blasted bad by a few teams.

I think we'll be favored in both to be honest with you.

I really don't think we'll be an underdog in any game the rest of the season except for maybe at Akron and at EMU (assuming those two continue to play well)

Does that mean we'll go 28-1.....no.

But I don't think 25-4 or even 26-3 is out of the question.

Yes...the MAC is much better than 2013. But I think Ohio vs. the MAC this year....the Cats are a better team than just about everyone on paper....closest to Akron/EMU....which (again) will be tough road games and entertaining home games.

I just think this team has the make-up of one that can string together a very impressive regular season.......which again, means almost nothing in the MAC when you don't really challenge yourself outside the conference.

As always....three nights in CLE....make it happen.

My BIG concern is IN THE PAINT - RB's O and D - And Scoring (including drawn fouls vs opponent Bigs and sinking decent % of those FT's). Tone get's quick couple PF's - w/o same vs opponent bigs - we are relying on 3's margin - Period

They lost to Nevada in Reno but beat them on a neutral court. Florida State and Nevada are better than any team we have played to date. You can't use the transitive property in college basketball. It just doesn't work. Iona certainly has a head-scratching loss but what they've done in their other games sure looks good to me. Not the same sport but I heard an interview with a former Washington Capitals player and he said the toughest games for him were the first home game after a long road trip. He said it's really easy for the players to have let downs because the have a chance to relax. Niagara was Iona's first and only home game of the season. I sure hope we play the Iona team that played on Sunday but I wouldn't count on it.

Good example might be OSU tonight. We knew they were ripe for an upset based on how we played them in a scrimmage. Any given night...

Can we panic now? I don't see how if we play like we've been playing against good teams (and I emphasize GOOD) we can hang with Central, Eastern, Northern, Buffalo, Akron, Kent -- those could all be losses. Heck, we could go sub-.500 if we continue the way we're playing.

I'm not panicked. This team will right the ship. Two tough road losses to two good teams does not a season ruin.

Deep breaths. Seven games in to a thirty game season.

I'm not panicked but I am at least acknowledging the reality check to hold back some of our overly optimistic hopes of a magical season complete with national recognition and conference dominance. Deep down you know not to expect that but when you have some of the personnel we have, your mind drifts sometimes. Losses to mediocre programs like Iona 7 Marshall help bring you back.

While Ken Pomeroy's numbers show improvement in their defense thus far (from 106.9 points/100 possessions and 236th nationally last year to 100.9 and 113 nationally this year), it has not shown up in their two losses. They've been over 1 point per possession against Marshall (1.20) and Iona (1.11). I think they have more willing defenders this year. But Tony absolutely refuses to fight for post position on defense. He allows easy passes into the post and then tries to rely on his great hands for strips and blocks. Which leads to easy buckets for the other team and foul trouble for Tony.

Exactly. He needs to play tough D before his man gets the ball down low. By then it's too late - an easy shot or a TC foul or both. Fight for position, deny the entry pass, make your man get the ball where he doesn't want to get the ball. Deciding to play tough D after your man gets the ball where he wants it is too late.

Good stuff. Been my gripe with AC all four years....just seems to lack that hard-nosed intensity (on both ends of court at times) that a lot of those guys from the 2012 team had. That was a gritty team....much like their coach (Groce)

Seemed that Groce demanded that defense and toughness. Doesn't appear to be case with Saul so far.

Is there a stat for "drawing fouls". What real in the paint studs do?
