Been waiting for this ...it is about the bucks....and recruiting ....and image

We were an adidas school when Tommy took his unofficial then Russell came. I have a few shirts with the Adidas logo on them but this is a much welcomed and well timed change. I am not such a fan of the shoes but they are solid and should help with our injury pic more than the present Nike collection. UA was my fave for the takeover but now we will have the funky unis worn by Louisville, Cincy, Wisky, ND and others with the wild graphics and colors. Sounds good.

I still have an Adidas polo that I wear to work as well. If this happens it should work well, with hopefully more options and a supplier looking to make a splash with new schools since they lost a few.

Does anyone know the specifics of the new deal? I wonder how it compares to the Russell deal.

The only thing that worries me is the only source so far is one person with 4 posts. Hopefully they are just preparing a big announcement and we'll get some more leaks soon.

Who do I contact at Adidas to ask them to reissue what I consider to be the greatest Ohio t-shirt design of all time ("The Real O-H-I-O")?

But the money wouldn't be coming from the AAU coach would it?

Not from him - to him. From shoe companies (and colleges). I know of a guy here in the Carolinas whose primary source of income is payola for directing his players to specific coaches/schools. Coaches have always had a huge impact on where a player gets directed (read Game Changer re: Charlie Scott), the more the money gets involved, the more impact - especially with kids that do not have the strong, stable family structure that your son has.

It is interesting, I was reading back through the thread re: Tariq Owens and his departure from Ohio (heavily influenced by his AAU coach - led to a Twitter tiff between the coach and Bobcat Love). At issue was whether we should let Owens out of his LOI. General take was that the kid commits to the school, not the coach - appears they are now starting by considering the shoe partner. Not because of an allegiance to a "brand" or podiatry fit, but because. as always, one must follow the money.

We can sign with L.A. Gear if this whole adidas thing gets out of hand, right? British Knights? Etonic? SPX? Mitre? Brooks? Those all-black work clogs they sell at Wal-Mart for $13?

Great quote from Georgia Tech football coach Paul Johnson the other day

Tennessee? LOL!

A bit off topic but can an athletic dept. do less with more money and resources and facilities than the little orange does? 100,000 seat football stadium and they haven't beat a team ranked in the AP top-10 in like 12 years. That is the longest losing streak in the SEC for that metric and one of the longest in the nation.

That's a serious list of schools.

That said, for useless trivia, Russell Athletic still owns the original Alabama Crimson and Tennessee Orange. Looks those up sometime, pretty cool to say the least.

So, while we're waiting for British Knights or LA Gear to swoop in, have we heard when adidas is going to finally unveil our hoops uniforms?
