I agree with his take. It's not going to make it easier for us and conferences like the MAC to schedule up, home or away.

It's getting more obvious that the big boys are making it harder for the little guys to flourish.

"The 20-game schedule will mean the end of what’s left of home-and-home scheduling"

That ended for the P5 schools a long time ago. I don't see this having any effect on MAC schools or other mid-majors. In fact, it might even open up some spots to kneel and kiss the ring for those who are willing. It will make matchups between the bigs less likely however.

As a fan, I don't like it because I really enjoy the interesting matchups that come with the "tournaments" in Nov/Dec. Events like that will be harder to continue when you only have 10-11 non-conf games.

It is what it is though. Big Conference College sports continues to trend toward caring mostly about the money even more.

The money tells the story.

Is this a recent development?

I would say let them go about scheduling. They will learn soon enough that people will quit paying the crazy prices for these events. If anything, watch the resale market for their events not only at these neutral sites but at home. At some point it will blow back in their faces due to the lack of interest in their teams gouging them only for the fans to not receive tickets to the neutral site games as part of their season ticket package.

even though he has buckeye in his name, he does have some good insight here. I think the nfl and major college athletics are like the housing bubble and will someday, hopefully soon, collapse under the weight of their own egos.

I don't think ticket sales or actual attendance matters.

Only TV money and TV exposure matter.

Heck, I think OSU is (or has) removed several thousand "cheap seats". I think the party line was they'll make up the $$ by charging more for new suites. I assume more TV money plays a role as well. No need to lower ticket prices when demand is down.....

Can somebody hit a pull up jumper for me?.....

Ohio69 I believe you are correct. TV money is all that matters. I can see a future where all the games are played only for the TV audience, without fans, much like the old days of studio wrestling.

I hope I'm never around to see that. Crowd atmosphere, student sections, the smell of popcorn - these are all part of the way the game is supposed to be in my opinion.

Ain't never gonna happen. Time for a trip to the eye doctor, my friend.

Have you forgotten the experience of live play??

And the old days of studio-only wrestling became arena-selling-out live shows.

If you haven't noticed, attendance has been waning for some time. My idea is extreme and would take many years if it happened, but I think it's possible. The generations behind ours think differently about how they shop for things and spend their time. If they don't want to go to a store to buy a suit, what makes you think they want to spend a whole day fighting traffic to and fro, and watching a game for 2-3 hours?

Some lessening of live attendance, perhaps temporary, perhaps not, I can buy.

But nothing nearly so drastic as basically no live attendance and studio production only.

People like monster jams...live.

One of the few times that I agree with Monroe in principle, but all the tv has moved some people away from attending games. Mid week MAC play and bowl game attendance are best examples of declining numbers for live play.

Don't worry; agreeing with me up front isn't habit forming.

Usually is in the end though.

I agree with me.

Somewhat.
