Typically there's way more financial gain as a top-tier overseas player than there is to being a bottom-tier NBA player. But as a bottom-tier NBA player, you're only one injury and a decent few games showing away from enormous money.

Overall, I agree... I think quality of life would be better starting for a European team like you mentioned and making great $... BUT, I'd also want ONE shot at the NBA.

I've seen crazier things happen.

Cash doesn't exactly replace the ability to see your kids grow up.

It's a lucky person that has the luxury to choose.

Does DJ have kids? If so, why can't his family live with him in Europe?

Have to disagree Pete. There is no choice here. You bring kids into the world, you watch them grow up.

Kyrie born Australia while father played there..Kobe grew up significantly in Italy while father played here...etc.. ??

I just pulled up the box score from yesterdays Wizards game and noticed that DJ did not play.
Unless injured I would have to say that his performance was not good enough to warrant more PT.
Obviously this doesn't help his chances of making an NBA roster.

The Wizards have potentially three more games in Las Vegas if they keep winning. It's not unusual for players to sit an occasional game but I tend to agree that he hasn't turned any heads while out there. He'd need to really turn it on.

Yes, most European teams provide housing and living allowances in addition to salary. But I'm sure some parents could be reluctant to having their kids growing up in another country and away from the rest of the family.

If he's making good money in Europe and has a family, it would be a great experience for them. As Hyman Roth once said to Michael Corleone: "This is the business we have chosen".

I do not know if he has had any more children, but his son was born while he was still at OU.

D.J. Cooper and Micheal Eric, both of whom started the first three games in summer league, were held out to allow Nate Wolters (eight points, three assists) and Kaleb Tarczewski (three points, six rebounds) to get more time. Both started instead.

Doesn't sound too good for Cooper.

As expected, Cooper did not play in the fifth and final Summer League game. For the three games he did play, all starts, he averaged 21.3 minutes, 4.3 points, 4.7 rebounds, 4.0 assists, 1.3 steals, 0.3 blocks and 1.7 turnovers per game. He made 2 of 7 3-pointers and both of his 2-point attempts. He was 3-5 on free throws.

With all the economic and security concerns in Europe, they might like to be somewhere a bit more stable. Canada has a start-up pro league (in its 5th year) and the pay is on par with some of the international leagues.

I recall Devo playing somewhere in Central or South America.
