Well, fortunately JS made the right decisions down the stretch which got him to the line and that helped us change the momentum.
While we were getting frustrated, particularly KK, we did enough to win in the last 4 minutes or so.

I hope the spittle at the corners of your mouth has dried. A new coach? Really? The lack of momentum-killing TOs has annoyed me as well, but I do think he has two good reasons not to call them. First, he knows this is a young team and he wants them to learn through the crucible of tough games like today's. We'll win some and lose some. Second, you can make a credible argument for conserving them for late in games. As a fan that wants to see a win at that time, it drives me crazy, but I don't think SP is being stupid.

That's brutal. I worked at the Mess 20 years ago and the staff was thin then, so I can only imagine how few editors are around nowadays. I'm explaining - not excusing - that error.

Love it when the Convo gets rocking.

Northern came out and just destroyed us out of half time. More aggressive on both ends and killed us inside. Love that Simmons took over, dug us out, and put it away. And Dartis wasn't afraid to get out on a break and take that late 3 and nailed it. Big time.

Seemed like a strange game by the refs. Not horrible calls but just too inconsistent for me.

Fun game.

Missed one of the few games I've missed all year today. Interesting to see rotation changing of late. I thought Gollon would be the first to lose all playing time once MAC play began and he has. No big surprise there as he's not ready. I also predicted Harley would be the next to go and boy has he. From starting to getting zero minutes and Laster taking his rotational spot. The most recent change, that I didn't see coming as I thought he was doing rather well, was Wadley. 4 total minutes today with Taylor getting his time. Only disappointment I saw from only seeing the box score was KK 1-6 from 3 and only 2 rebounds with 4 fouls. I keep waiting for some consistency from him, but...

It doesn't help Wadley that he's 6'10", should be able to touch the top of the backboard yet he misses dunks.

It was a good move to get Taylor in there to bang with Maric. He wore him out and it showed late.

In an up and down game I'd want Wadley. When the other team wants to dump it inside to bigs, I'll take Taylor.

Felt like Kaminsky just got unlucky today on both ends. The effort was there.

We may be seeing a lesson that defense gets you minutes with Block, then Laster, and now Taylor picking up minutes.

My take: excellent first half of defense. NIU worked ball to get inside but good hands and good positioned caused a bunch of turnovers. On both ends of the court Cats took what was available. 60% on 3 pointers and over 50% overall. Pretty good shot selection. Only took 4 foul shots by Cats. KK and Tony C. Out with 2 fouls a good deal. Block and Taylor gave good minutes. 16 point lead.

2nd half was strange. NIU played well at both ends for 12 minutes. Took the ball at us and found the open man. Ohio stalled on all counts. 10 points until after 8:00 minutes to go. After time out Cats did the same as NIU and won the battle. Lots of drive and dish or drives to force a foul. Cats took their big guy out of game for most part. During bad stretch Cats' offense was way out of sorts. Several times shot clock around 6 with no movement towards basket. Head scratching!

IMHO officiating was "interesting". Gave them some rope then would call something that had been allowed. Saw a lot of frustrated faces on both sides. A couple of "it's a foul if the shot doesn't go in" calls that benefitted both teams.

28 minutes of very good basketball. KK took ball to hole a few time which could help give him some room to get a comfortable shot as season progresses. Taylor isn't afraid of other bigs- will let Tony C play less careful at times if it continues. Simmons' turnovers are mostly a minor distraction when he can drive and dish as teammates keep moving.

The good is getting better. The bad isn't getting better yet. Hopefully that is an experience thing and our lapses are not complete breakdowns.

OT- Mediterranean on 33 in Lancaster was a nice different food stop.

Go Cats!

thanks for the info. COnsidered listening on Tunein during lectures but thought I might miss something reeeeeallllly important so kept my head in the game.

Med...good place....odd to find it in Lancaster....but after 6 years going back and forth to that community...it is one of the better places to grab some food. New rib place on the south end of town just past 188 going north is also pretty decent since Glass City closed.

What is the Med place you're referring to in Lancaster? If you know me, you know I do Med food and lots of it. Is it Greeks, or Middle Eastern'ers?

No expert myself but I believe it is primarily Greek. My meal was Spicy Chicken Argos, my wife's was chicken Shawarma. Pita with Kopanisti for starter. Kind of hole in wall place on business 33 in an old plaza.

And before we get booed for hijacking the thread, how about those cats today righting the ship in the last 8 minutes. Go Cats!

Saul didn't blow the 18 point lead; the players did. And guess what; they got it back to an 11 point difference in the end. Basketball games have an ebb and flow. We scored 48 points in the first half. More than this young team should be expected to score, so the game came back on them in the second half. I thought it was very encouraging that when Northern went up 4 we didn't fold. That shows progress for, once again, a young team. I'm convinced that if this had been earlier in the year, once Northern went up 4, they would have just increased the margin and won going away. Instead we fought back. Nice win.

+1 Excellent point about the team learning how to deal with adversity. If this game had been earlier in the same, we'd have had another Tulsa game, where an 18 point lead becomes a two-point loss.

I continued to be impressed by two newcomers -- Doug Taylor and Jordan Dartis. They are getting better game by game. Others are too, but those two really stick out to me. These guys are both going to be first-team ALL MAC before their playing days are over.

OCF........I really wasn't expecting anything out of Taylor this year. It's been a pleasant surprise. He has an Ed Sears quality about him that I really like. Not the quickest guy, but good basketball IQ and seems to always be around the basketball and knows how to take up space.

Unlimited potential for Dartis.....his nickname should be "Silk".....dude doesn't force anything and makes it look effortless.
