A MAC championship level team probably wins this game.

I think that this would be an awful lot to expect after everything the program went through after Christian left. But we have played 3 bad teams and one that is probably a bubble level team. It is hard to say but Florida State is probably not quite on the level that Tulsa is. This is the best metering stick so far to determine is this team is an upper division MAC team.

FSU has 4 freshmen and 3 are getting significant playing time. In fact, their top 2 scorers are freshmen, both averaging 19.5pts/gm and 26mins. Verbal Commits has them all rated at 4 stars and one is a 5 star. Their PG leads the team in minutes and is averaging 9pts, 7asts.

Will be interesting to see how two teams with similar experience levels but a supposed gap in talent stack up. Looks as if they are not immune to the growing pains that young teams suffer early in the season.

SMH at your assessment of "three bad teams." My guess is by the midpoint of the season none of these teams will be "bad"...unless your definition of "bad" is any team below 150.

Third game in three days, right? A win against a solid opponent would be pretty impressive for this squad which depends on a lot of minutes from youngsters and new guys in leadership roles.

[Applies even if 3rd game in 4 days.]

Florida State's game against DePaul is replaying right now on the website. I can't get the sound, though.

Tennessee State is a really, really bad team. They'll be 200+ for sure. Their schedule is so bad. They'll be lucky to win 4 games in weak OVC.

Norfolk plays 9 of next 10 away from home...they will have bad record before they start MEAC play.

Not sure about FGCU yet...they needed 3OT to beat Youngstown St team that got drilled by Toledo and lost to Kent. They play Florida and A&M on road still, so they'll get tested.

Bottom line is, Ohio is 3-1 (should be 4-0) beating everyone they should have.

Winning breeds confidence. Their schedule is loaded with "winnable" games....and if they can go 6-2 rest of OOC games...that's 9-3 heading into MAC play.

That will be a nice confidence boost for a young team to compete for a top 4 seed (potentially) and a maybe a postseason bid to CIT or CBI.

I think you're over exaggerating by saying TSU is a "really, really, bad team." They just took a Middle TN team to overtime that has 8 JRs and SRs and won 19 games last year. I think they'll be competitive in their conference.

MTSU is a mess right now without their PG.

We can revisit this in February, but TSU has been major dumpster fire since their coach left for Fiami.

I'll be stunned if they win more than 4 OVC games

Anyone still around who remembers when we
last (?) played Florida State decades ago?
Hint: The game was played in Athens. I
was in the audience.

According to FSU website, the last game was in Talla. Looks like we beat them in the late 60s and they beat us in 74.

Need this one for family bragging rights.

D.F.Cat,
You are correct.
We defeated FSU 86-66 in Athens
during the season of 1957-58.
FSU defeated us in Florida 67-60
during the 1974-75 season.

As I was walking on the boardwalk in St Croix on the way to the seaplane terminal to catch my flight to St Thomas, a gal walking by
says "go Bobcats". Turns out she and her mom both went to Ohio. Small world.

These guys really put a lot of defensive pressure on the guards, if the DePaul game is how they play all the time. They are athletic, fast and can make jump shots. It will be a very tough test for a young team. I don't think we will be able to pass the ball around a lot to find many open threes. They were very disruptive.

The team I saw play in the Convo sure didn't look like a dumpster fire to me. I didn't see them play last year but their three best players, Wayne Martin, Keron Deshields and Tahjere McCall, are new to the team this year. Against MTSU both Martin and McCall were in foul trouble and played limited minutes. I'll be absolutely shocked if they don't end up with a winning record in the OVC if they stay healthy.

+1. I think it's fair to say they were awful last year, but my recollection from Russ & Rob's commentary on that game was that TSU had something like 6-8 new faces, some of them JUCO's. In other words, a very different team, much like OUr Bobcats.

Exactly. Tulsa fans judged their performance against us based on last year's team but we are clearly not the same team we were last year. Neither is Tennessee State. Of course, neither is FGCU.

2015-16 Preseason OVC Men's Basketball Predicted Order of Finish

East Division
1. Belmont (22 first-place votes) – 132 points
2. Morehead State (1) – 105
3. Eastern Kentucky – 88
4. Tennessee Tech – 67
5. Jacksonville State – 52
6. Tennessee State - 48

West Division
1. Murray State (15 first-place vote) – 125 points
2. UT Martin (9) – 115
3. Eastern Illinois - 88
4. Southeast Missouri - 72
5. Austin Peay - 57
6. SIUE - 35

They're projected at the bottom of their league by coaches and SIDs. I spent a lot of time around this league and I've seen it where TSU was legit. They are not this year. They will struggle in this league. You can book two losses to Belmont, Morehead and EKU. They'll be lucky to split with Tech and Jax State.

They play each team in the west once....assuming on where they are at, they might beat SIUE and Peay...but it's doubtful they beat Murray, Martin, EIU or SEMO.

That's 4-12 to me.

I said I'd be surprised if they'd win more than 4 in the league.

A winning record in the OVC is really asking a lot.

5-26 (2-14) in 2014-15
5-25 (4-12) in 2013-14

2015 Sagarin Rating: 245
2015 RPI: 247

NonConf SOS at 263......they will have a hard time raising either of those numbers before OVC play starts.....and the OVC is weighed down with a lot of teams in the 200s.....

This will be 200+ team in the ratings all year.

I've been wrong before.....but again, we can re-visit in February.

How fantastic is the Jordan Dartis signing looking 5 games in? It's just fun to see kids who can shoot again. That disappeared for a year last season.
