Me either. We tend to look at other teams and how they affect us but you know there are fans of other teams looking at the Ohio date and bemoaning the fact that their coach or AD scheduled a 10 win 200 RPI team.

On the other hand, coaches could look at Ohio, see a 10-win team and view it as an opportunity to pick up a winnable game that looks better than it actually is. The opposing program can say they scheduled a team that recently was in the Sweet 16 instead of "another game against a MAC school", maybe?

Kinda like our win at North Carolina. It looks really, really good in hindsight, even if UNC was in the depths of its Daugherty dirge.

Just a thought.

We are what our RPI says we are. We don't look at wins over mids that have been to the Sweet 16 lately like that, why would anyone else? We look at them for what they are. UNC is a rarified air school. I'd like to think we have the best program in the MAC but even that is debatable. The only teams that ten years from now will be talking about their win over Ohio are teams we are complaining about having on the schedule now.

We won't get big dogs to come here, but we do have a realistic shot to do a 2 for 1 with some schools.

Teams in the Valley, American or mid-high level A-10 would be fine for this. Might even get the occasional Big East to bite on this...

I've never noticed too much trouble trying to pick up 1 for 1's with the MVC. All the A-10 schools will do it except Dayton. American schools vary so much in quality that unless its Cincy, Temple, Memphis or UConn fans will better recognize a Horizon League team.

Why do we have to schedule so many games with "name recognition"? SMU would be a fantastic game for us in a year or two, and getting Houston, USF, and UCF wouldn't be a bad thing. I personally think Groce and a little bit more, Christian, did a nice job scheduling teams that were at the top of their conference, and teams that likely were going to the tournament, or did the year before. I guess the point I'm making is that I highly doubt most of the games we schedule are done with the concern to name recognition. Instead, I'd assume they're looking for a mix of winnable SOS/RPI boosters against quality opponents, and other games that should easily be winnable at home just before MAC play starts. I'd be interested to know all the thought processes that go into how an AD and Coaching staff build a schedule.

If I'd venture to guess the average Ohio fan would prefer to watch Cleveland St or Valpo over UCF & USF because the former are familiar as basketball schools. SMU is another name that wouldn't travel to the Convo. The way to game RPI is to have a lot of home games. Statistically 67% of home teams win games so that is why Ohio in recent years has loaded up with the Jackson State level schools. From the perspective of fan excitement, a preseason tournament, roadie against a P5 and a couple of good home games from the MVC, Horizon or A10 mixed in with easy buy games at home is a good balance to get the fans excited going into MAC play.

Perhaps we could schedule a home game with an engineering school and work that roof study into the deal.
