Fed Hock is barely a stone's throw from Athens. As for shaming kids like Watson and Burrow, let it go. These are kids that have the opportunity to play sports at an extremely high level at prestigious universities. Shame on anyone who puts them down or speaks poorly of them for taking the opportunity to follow a dream. It's extremely selfish to put them down for not choosing to come play for your team. I firmly believe, had those trolls who put them down been in the same situation, you'd do the same thing. I think you would be foolish NOT to. No doubt there is a strong relationship with local ties to the UM staff that made that decision much easier. We see the same situation in Indiana all the time. Kids head out for lots of reasons. Deadspin did several maps on where kids come from, where they go, how big a capture rate each state has in keeping their kids at home. Using your logic my oldest daughter never would have attended Ohio University as it was not "local" to her. Local would have been Akron or some other college in NE Ohio. In fact, I have to imagine 99% of Ohio's students aren't from Athens or the surrounding vicinity, therefore they didn't choose to go to a local college to them either.
