I say its Mompremier, Campbell, Kaminiski, Gollon and Simmons. Next 3 : Setty, Harley and Dartis.
Anyone see a different set up or a breakthrough guy?

Laster will be more important and replace Mompremier with Setty in the starting lineup.

This is the toughest starting 5 to peg that I can remember because I have absolutely no clue how to place Kaminski. Is he able to play as the 3 in Saul's system or is he a 4? 2 bigs including Kaminski or 3 bigs including Kaminski?

I've seen crazier things happen.

Speaking of Harley..

I've seen several pics of the players on social media both working out and hanging out socially and I haven't seen Harley in any of the pics. Either he is always the designated camera man or he hasn't been working out or hanging out with the other players. Any insight?

I'm saying Campbell is the "big man" in this rotation and Wadley off the bench as a backup.

Campbell, Kaminski, Harley, Laster, Simmons start.

The thing is, I don't think there is a "next three" with these guys. I got a feeling Saul's going to want to rotate more guys this year. Take your pick between Setty, Wadley, Dartis, Block and Gollon. I'm really curious to see how Doug Taylor fits into this rotation given the injury he suffered.

I agree with you there. We already know that Simmons, Kaminski, Campbell are going to be in the first five. After that, it's wide, wide open. The opportunity for major PT is there for guys like Dartis, Gollon, Block as freshman. I'd assume that Laster and Harley will be given plenty of opportunity as returning players to take the reigns as starters with Taylor departing.

It would be interesting if you put Campbell at the 4 with Wasly at the 5. Tony could have some good mismatches.

Kaminski is a walking mismatch on offense with his size and ability to stroke the 3. He will force bigs to step outside and be able to shoot over guards. If Kaminski can play as more of a 3 with both Campbell and Wadly down low, that could give them a lot of room to operate down there.

The other side of that coin is that a lot of times when a player is a mismatch on the offensive end they are a negative mismatch on the defensive end. Don't have a clue on Kaminski to say he will be though.

Agreed. In reading the MSU boards last year when he transferred, the most common gripe about him was his defense. It'll be interesting to see how it all fits this year.

Even if he's made strides on defense, I think Kaminski is better off guarding another post player with average quickness and athleticism than trying to stick with a MAC '3' wing guard.

I'm thinkin' 1 thru 5 is more like A thru E this year - as in thinking and playing outside of the box......

That seems to be how he is recruiting. Offensively, that should be exciting. Defensively, it'll be interesting.

Besides learning about Harley's back rehab, this is the most important part of that piece:

“It’s funny because we’re going to have a lot of youngsters out there, but at the same time, just because they’re new faces — Kenny and Jaaron have played some basketball,” Phillips said. “We still look young at times, but really an unselfish group. A group that passes the ball extremely well and play well off each other.”

A team that passes the ball well, and play well off each other. Those are things that were struggles last season. Hopefully it continues.

It's been a month or so, the schedule (hopefully) will be out soon, and I'm starting to really think about basketball getting started. With that said, I'm wondering if there's been any news on Khari Harley's health?

He looked fine at the volleyball scrimmage on Saturday, but most people look fine when they are standing against a wall.

Kaminski, Simmons, Campbell and Setty should be guaranteed starters with one of either Laster, Gollon or Harley in the fifth spot. And with Dartis, Wadley, Block and hopefully either Dozier or Taylor, we have a little more depth this year. I can see us going 10 deep, which last year was something I never thought I'd see or hear again.

Respectfully, I'd rather see Setty as one of the first two off the bench. It just seems to fit him better to come in to give energy. He should still get 20+ minutes a game whether he's a starter or not.

They should go a bit deeper than last year to develop the young players. This isn't an ncaa at-large bid contender or even contender in the MAC this year. Phillips has to develop those players for next year when we should have a solid team. Build a deep bench for the future. We don't have any superstars on this team, so its got to be more like Akron model where its a deep roster that wins out vs a couple go to scorers that dominate the stat sheet.

I do think we have some stars. I actually think that our top 3 of Kaminski, Simmons and Tony is the best trio in the MAC now that Moss is gone from Beefs. I saw Jaaron play in high school and I really believe in the MAC he will be a First Teamer and possible Player of the Year.

I'm sure it will be a while before this can be answered, but I'll ask it anyway: when (or will we ever) will we know if we get 2 years of Kaminski or 3 years?

Agreed that Kaminski and Simmons could be stars, and Tony's progress is trending towards that. But, the two transfers are mostly unproven to this point.

Playing devil's advocate, I think CMU could, and should argue the best returning bunch in the conference. Fowler is outstanding, and the rest of the returning starters are pretty darn good. Buffalo still has a lot of talent returning in Skeete, Wiggington, and Bearden, so they won't be terrible, but as we know, the loss of Moss and Evans is huge. And we always know Akron will be solid. Dambrot is quietly assembling some good talent at PG there after years of no PG depth. And they return Kretzer, McAdams, and Forsythe.

NIU returns a lot of players that contributed quite a bit last year. Whether they'll take another step, we'll see. Miami returns a lot, and has quite a few upperclassmen. They might take some big steps this year too.

Other than those teams, I see a bunch of teams that lost a lot of 4th or 5th year starters that will have rosters in transition: BG, UT, Kent, Western, EMU.

I agree the opportunity is certainly there to jump back into the top 4-5 teams in the MAC this year, and Simmons, Kaminski and Tony are crucial to that. Playing better defense is just as crucial though, and the other 5-6 guys that make up the regular rotation hopefully will play better D than we saw this past year.

Admitting that I didn't see much of last year's play, I think that we'll be solid. Certainly MAC-decent at the end of the year.

Not impressed with 'kron. They're okay but we beat them at least once.
