Ryan looked like he was close with Laster. I used to see them around campus together all the time

Ryan is averaging 15 per game, shooting it pretty well but only 1.6 assists per game to go with 1.4 TO per game. Clearly their #2 guy behind senior Jaylon Brown. He has as chance to pile up some serious numbers during his 3 year career at Evansville.

yes he was a big loss

Nobody despises to lose more than I do. That's got me into trouble over the years, but it also made a man of mediocre ability into a pretty good coach. Woody Hayes

My father-in-law is a former Indiana high school basketball coach from that area, saw him play/knew his coach and was pretty confident that Taylor was going to be a good D1 player.

I'm glad Taylor found the place for him and is flourishing. I really liked his game.

Yeah, this is one of those cases where "wish him well in his future endeavors" is more than empty rhetoric. Seemed like a good kid and very promising player. I was sad to see him go.

Agree with you both. He was a player I was looking forward to watching as his game evolved.

To this day, I'd really like to know what led to the sudden exit. This is a kid that said he wanted to play for Saul, just not in Fargo. As soon as he was offered from Ohio, he jumps at it, and plays a solid frosh year, and was set to be a likely starter last year.

I was told the locker room culture was "poisonous" his first year thanks to a couple of seniors. One is currently playing in the NBA, the other in Italy.

I've heard that too, but with those two gone, it *seems* that things are better. I guess that reason doesn't seem like a legit one to me given the graduation of those individuals - assuming they were the poison in the eyes of young players.

The "wasn't/isn't " very good Taylor poured in 38 pts. last night including 6 of 10 from 3. That kid leaving was "huge"!

There were way too many squirrels and fat ground hogs in Athens.

So - he left - because he knew they would be gone well before he would have his opportunity to really shine for a couple years. I hope he is not a Philosophy/Logic major.....

Well, perhaps Ryan hated his first year in Athens due to these issues and felt his coach didn't have the backs of his recruits in addressing locker room issues.
Who's to argue with a kid who is dissatisfied with his college experience? Isn't the total experience - school, friendships, feeling like you "fit in," support system, etc. - what it's all about? What right do we have to criticize him?

I, for one, am not criticizing him, though I'm not suggesting you think I am either. I was disappointed he left, and I would be interested to know why he made the seemingly sudden decision. Other than Grunkenmyer, I've never been one to begrudge a kid for transferring. Then again, I was still somewhat a kid when he transferred.

He took a couple nice coeds from my mod with him to Fiami when he left as well. Love rooting against him.

It might not make sense to us but if it's the only college locker room he's had experience with maybe he was afraid that that's just the way it is here. If you recall Treg almost transferred as well. Hard to judge a kid who left for a more prestigious league, closer to home and is doing well.

It would be great if he were still here, but on the flip side, if he was someone else wouldn't be.

It's a shame that some of the speculation about Ryan's departure has to be due to a "toxic" and 'Poison' senior class! Having some insight into the matter, his decision was more dynamic than that and was due to several factors. Obviously that season did not meet expectations, but the dynamics of the same should not be described in such negative terms!

Well we're basically seeing 8 maybe 9 guys play so I'm pretty sure we could have found a place for him.

Legit grudge material, McBin. Hilarious.

For what it's worth, last year over at Muncie my buddy @OUHetts and I were waiting postgame with his fellow Middletown Middie class of '79 alum whose son Nate Wells played for the Cardinals. We were down low and I observed/heard Grunkemeyer have a conversation with Treg Setty. He'd had a great game in Ohio's win over Ball State and Grunkemeyer had specific, positive feedback about how Treg had played. His respect and appreciation seemed genuine. I was impressed. Treg was humble and appreciative. I was impressed with that, too.
