purely anecdotal observation from a quick glance at social media- the Frosh 5 seem to be bonding very well and all sound very excited about being on the team and at OU in general. A strong bond within that class and what appears to be seamless integration with the rest of the team has me thinking attitudes and effort will be much improved this season.

Of course, everything appeared to be all unicorns and rainbows last summer too so you never know.

It's always rainbows and unicorns in July.

That proves my idea wrong that he might go Division II so he wouldn't have to sit out this season.

Some speculated that he wanted to be closer to home. But Evansville really isn't that much closer to home than Athens was.

Since it is official are there any play immediately transfers available. Hate to have an unused scholarship perhaps renting a player for a year.

I moved from Ohio to Kentucky once, mostly for work purposes. I had to change my license plates and license and everything under the sun to Kentucky. It sucked. I moved back to Ohio about a year later. Maybe he just likes Indiana?

Not a ton of guys who can help us on that list. Most of them would be Chandler Thomas style rentals. I'd rather keep the scholarship open in-case a mid-season transfer becomes available.

As a fan, I'm in agreement - use the scholly for 2016-17. Find a PG or big who can be productive for 3-4 seasons instead.

http://www.courierpress.com/sports/ue/taylor-a-good-fit-f...

"Ryan Taylor recalled being impressed last December by the University of Evansville men’s basketball team.

It wasn’t by how well the Aces played. It was by the manner in which they played during their overtime victory over Taylor’s Ohio Bobcats.

“They seemed like a group,” said Taylor, a 6-foot-5 guard. “There wasn’t different cliques, and you could tell everybody was brothers. Everybody looked like they liked each other on the floor and you could just tell that they had a really good chemistry.”"

"Taylor averaged 8.1 points, 2.5 rebounds and 1.3 assists last season. He declined to specify why he left Ohio, but said conversations with UE’s coaches and players convinced him Evansville was the right fit."

So obviously last year's team wasn't really a "team" per se. That stinks he couldn't find his fit here with the new guys. Hope things work out better over in Evansville.

Anyone watching a single game last year could see that. It's disappointing that for whatever reason he didn't think it would improve this year, but it's easy to see how last year could have been a nightmare for him (it sure was for most of us too).

I have a hard time believing that Ndour or Stevie were bad guys. So we're basically saying that Bean was the cause of all the cliques or bad energy on last years team? There has to be more to this story maybe some of the the returning guys were part of the problem too or why would Taylor still want to leave. Saul better nail that in the bud from day 1 this year.

Is this the 3rd or more straight year we've heard that the past years locker room was poison? Has it been every year since Bassett the word leaks regarding how miserable everyone was the previous season or how disfunctional the locker room was?

Focus on this year.

Seems to me that this will be quite the interesting season with a host of newbies who are talented and expected to play significant roles.

This year.

I'm entirely making this up and have absolutely no idea if it's true or not, but: Saul is legendary for the way his kids play, the way his imprint begins to take hold in his second year.

I think it goes back even longer than 3 years CG, it seems to be a yearly occurrence that you see the bball guys hanging out together at the early football games and the "word" is that this year's team has "great" chemistry, Coach (fill in the blank) really connects with us and the locker-room is now a band of brothers.

Then by the end of the bball season or early after the season ends, it's the story that the locker-room was fractured, the coach didn't connect, there were too many cliques etc., etc., etc.

I'm glad Ryan left if he felt it was no longer a good fit for him here. That said, I think he leaves a big hole to fill. He kind of reminded me of a right-handed version of Sonny Troutman - versatile and athletic. I think Ryan could have developed into a very solid performer and been quite an asset to the program. Sadly it didn't turn out that way. Wish him the best and hope that whatever it was that didn't fit for him here is overcome by the rest of the remaining cast.

What's disturbing to me is that Ryan was one of Saul's recruits, albeit a late one, and the guy should be on board for the long term. Not a good situation to me. Worrisome.

You can guess all you want, but you'll never get inside his head. I think it's a situation where players today feel they are more mobile and if they don't like something, they can leave and find a better place. Or at least a different place. In my day many years ago I never once thought to transfer. When I look back on it, there were many situations I didn't like that I had to struggle through. Today I would transfer. Then, I thought I have this scholarship that I don't want to lose and I'll just work through it. I'm here to graduate. I think I'm better for that experience

Although Taylor was a late offer at Ohio Saul had originally offered him at NDSU back in January 2014 so these two had known each other for quite some time. Seeing as how Saul stuck with him when no other D1 schools came through with offers I'm surprised he left too. Probably means there was a multitude of reasons the decision was made.

Whatever the locker room problems were last year in basketball I doubt they compare with what took place in the Peden locker room during the 2013 season. All things are relative. The good news is that in both sports things are looking up and the 2015-16 year should be one of great improvement and possibly legendary seasons to remember. Go OHIO!
