I'm not going to sugarcoat it, most of the home non-conference schedule sucks! Arkansas-Pine Bluff? Jackson State? Tennessee State? What, was Prairie View A&M already booked, why aren't they on our schedule too???

We could debate forever the "head turner" status of a team on a schedule based on individual opinions. What excites one person, doesn't matter to another person.

For me as a fan for the fun or hype value, I'm looking to play teams I have either heard of, or I've seen play in the Big Dance in the last 5 years, are a regional rival, or play in a bigger conference. With that, Tulsa, FGCU, South Carolina, Marshall, Indiana St, Cleveland St, St. Bonnie, and Depaul all fit the bill. Unfortunately, this year, only two of those are at home.

With a young team, and a team relying on a lot of new faces, I have no issues with scheduling some cupcakes to get the confidence level high going into MAC play.

It could be worse. EMU plays four non-D1 games in addition to their preseason exhibition. CMU plays three. Aside from UC visiting BG, there is not one overly interesting non-conference home game for MAC teams this year.

My first reaction is the same as OhioBobcat-this schedule sucks. I know everyone likes all the home games but those three close to Christmas are enough to choke anybody to death. Personally, I would exchange those three home games in front of NO students and small crowds for a trip to a Tourney on a neutral court with some decent competition that maybe some alumni might just attend. Then again, that's just my thought.

This scheduling thing is interesting whether it's football or basketball. Look at Marshall, which ended 9-21 and lost a bunch of players by transfer, plays WVU, Tennessee and Maryland. All big name programs. They have no chance to win any of these by my estimation, but at least they're trying to play the big boys. What's more interesting to the fan base and future recruits- a blow out loss to a big boy or a win over a 300+ RPI team? I prefer to play a few big boy games even if you lose, I guess.

Anyway, good luck to the team, I hope they win a bunch of games, and have fun.

That neutral court tourney you're referring to is taking place in November this year.

While I don't know the answer to this, I'd really question whether a recruit takes the time to go back 2, 3, 4 years to see who has been on the schedule. Rather, I think he would be looking at facilities, future teammates, coachnig staff, and style of play.

If you read about the schedule, you'll note that Saul mentions "When you look at the schedule, it's balanced out to accomplish a lot of goals, and one of those goals is to integrate some younger players into the world of playing college basketball."

When I read in between the lines, he's preparing for the fact that he has five freshman, and seven new faces. Run them out against Maryland, Tennessee and WVU, and they probably lose all three by 15+ if they're early in the season. I'm not sure what purpose that would serve. I do recall him saying at the Columbus caravan, and I'm paraphrasing here, that next year's schedule will be tougher.

Personally, my only complaint is the lack of Saturday home games in all of December. That to me is bad for business when it comes to ticket and concessions sales. And that is confusing to me when you can see they're scheduling a pile of home games during that time.

Not much to say about the home non-con schedule. FGC is pretty good (quick though, name the coach without doing a search). Ohio Dominican??? Have fun selling that, even in Columbus.

I will take Coach at his word. The words I remember from the caravan were, "if we play like I think we can this year, you'll look at the 2016-17 schedule and think I'm crazy..." Hopefully, that means he'll try to upgrade the home sched...

this is a bit of an arbitrary number but I like to see us have a schedule where the avg RPI of the opponents is better than 150, regardless of the names on the front of the jersey. Using the avg. for the 2nd (178) and 3rd (143) round games in the Paradise Jam the avg RPI for our schedule this year is 204. Not where I would like it to be but for a team that finished with an RPI of 232 last year maybe it is to be expected.

My favorite part of the schedule looks like a possibility of 2 double header games at home for the men and women this year. Both teams host NIU on Saturday February 6th. And both teams host Buffalo at home on Saturday February 27th.

Well I may be the only one who likes it but as a big fan of Ohio Dominican I like seeing it. That being said, ODU is a bad d2 program. Will be over 5 minutes in.

I'll absolutely be at the Cleveland State game, and with 5 Saturday home conference games, this might finally be the year I make the trip back to Athens to see a game in the Convo. That alone has me excited.

As for that game at the Q, I think there is a more than decent chance that we have more fans there than CSU. Seems like a lot of Northeast Ohio alums are interested, and I would imagine not playing in the tournament games here last spring has everyone jonesing even more.

This is a team coming off a down year and clearly not expecting to be a contender for an at-large bid. The schedule is soft but the hope is the team can put up some wins and improves toward the end of the season. The program is in rebuilding mode. This team will be toward the bottom of the MAC again, but Its about developing the young players. We don't have upper classmen or stars on this team. Phillips has to teach this team the right way so its pays off in a couple years down the road. The schedule fits the team we have right now. we play a lot of 200 and up rpi teams because we are one of those 200 plus rpi teams. We will find out two years from now if Phillips was a good coach and developed the team. All we ask is the team competes and plays hard and gets better and builds toward the next couple years when the expectations will be back to the high standards of Ohio.

A bit off topic, but Indiana Tech's coach back in the day was Bob Macey whose son Kyle was a bit of a star at Kentucky. At halftime, the five year old boy would come out in a #1 IIT jersey and sink free throws at a 100% clip.
Indiana Tech's tough engineering program (a failure fueled by beer and rock and roll) earned me a full ride scholarship to the Army and a date with a video comment. Still remember that alma mater, though.
Borna knows a good bit about Bob Macey.

I have no problem with the cupcakes this year. Young team that will benefit from some early success. You never know how they will come together.

We only play one true road game (St. Bonaventure). All the other non-home OOC games are either neutral or not at the opponents real place (Cleveland State).

I don't hate the schedule as much as some do. I count 7 intriguing games. Glad to see Marshall back on the schedule.
