My guess is Danny White will break the bank on this hire. $600,000 would not surprise me, which would make it the highest paying MAC job.

Interesting to see that they names Nate Oates interim coach while they look for replacements. I don't recall Ohio doing anything like this when Groce or Christian left. I wonder if they are hoping this will keep some of this years commitments around.

NYB didn't seem to be all that interested in keeping Hurley. They offered him $1,000 more than Saul is making, and even though it would've made him the highest paid bball coach in the MAC, with his 42-20 record you'd think he be getting a lot more than a 10-20 coach. Unless they get a real star, I don't see NYB shelling out much more than what Hurley was making.

Dear Buffalo:

Welcome to what success in the MAC feels like. Fun, isn't it?

If the reports in the Buffalo News are to be believed, than Hurley continues to be extremely petulant and full of himself.

Hurley may be a petulant man-child, but there is a certain arrogance on the part of the Director of Athletics at The State University of New York at Buffalo.

Karmas gonna catch up someday, but dude will probably be at Miami or Texas Tech by then.

Lot of posturing on both sides. AD leaks info on the extension (ahem) and Hurley leaks his side. Truth likely somewhere in the middle.

you think Saul's salary is for a "10-20 coach"? Its not for a coach with 144 wins, or for a coach with 2 prior NCAA appearances and a win? Its not for the head coach of a program that regularly doubles Buffalo's avg attendance and has 13 NCAA appearances, including a Sweet 16 as recently as 2012? c'mon.

Saul is actually 144-104, not 10-20 unless you are insinuating that all that matters is one season with a team he didn't recruit.

He's 10-20 in the MAC, and I'm sure that's all that mattered to Hurley, who isn't fond of Saul to begin with.

So you don't think Hurley acknowledges his entire resume? And since we are parsing games why don't we get down to only the games that really matter. Saul is 1-1 vs Hurley. In that context maybe he should have been happy with the offer.

No, I don't think he does. With Hurley's ego, I doubt he saw more than 42-20 (25-11) vs 10-20 (5-13). There's no rationalizing the thinking of a highly irrational coach.

I would think that a coach who's conference record regressed in his second year would be appreciative of even a modest raise.

Shannon Evans out at UB. Blowing up UB's AD via twitter, claims Danny White refused to sit down with him to discuss his future, says UB is blocking him from following Hurley to ASU or from transferring to VCU or ODU which are near his hometown. Says he like the new head coach but is transferring because of relationship with the AD. Should be noted that Evans was a Witherspoon recruit who decommitted when Reg was fired but Hurley convinced him to come to UB.

Coaching changes are a delicate situation.

Wow. I really think Evans was their best player too. That could be a big blow to hopes of returning to the dance, even though they have a lot of depth.

Anybody want to explain why they would block him going to VCU or ODU?

Reading their board is certainly entertaining. I have no good reason for wanting him to get back toward home as far as blocking the transfer. ODU and VCU may not give him the limelight and situation he wants but no problem in my eyes as far as Buff is concerned. Just being contrarian as far as I can see.

Anyone else feel at least a little weird with a student calling the AD by his first name?

Evans is also saying every school he's considering is in a "higher conference" than the MAC. But Old Dominion is part of CUSA, which was behind the MAC this year in the conference rankings. Just goes to show you the perception of our league, even when it has a good season.
