you beat me too it. I heard a Bobcat fan this weekend complaining about our bigs being too perimeter oriented. I had to laugh....it's not like they are not doing work inside and floating out ...opening up the floor as they go. There is no reasoning with folks who are obsessed with bigs on the perimeter...yet Wisky posts guards on the block to invert the offense as Bo loves them taking their man inside....

Agreed Borna, the comments some make about our bigs game is comical at times. And posting a good guard can be very effective.

I'm not claiming to be an expert and the point about Newble is a good one--I don't know if I'd recognize what is NBA talent. But some on here don't recognize what is not-NBA talent.

Generally, guys have to be physically solid--tall and/or thick. Quick. And, they must have some skill that is unique, indeniable--shooting or rebounding or defense, etc.

Take Gary Trent. It was easy to see. It was there every game.

This isn't a criticism...it's just my view: haven't seen anyone lately in the Green and White who I'd say is definite NBA material.

Along that line, I didn't see Hassan Whiteside when he was at stupd cow. Did those of you who saw him there think that this was a guy who put up big numbers in the NBA?

I think anyone who's seven feet tall, quick and athletic has a good shot at the NBA. The only things that kept him from being a lottery pick were a lack of offensive polish and extreme immaturity. Even so, he went early in the second round. It's an interesting story.

NBA scouts are thinking about what the player can become far more than the numbers they put up in college. Ndour did not have dominant numbers, but they were good, and he has things the NBA loves: Huge wingspan, outside shot, decent handles for a big man, very athletic. He also evolved from a good to a dominant defensive presence in the paint with his shot blocking ability. He was always a good shot blocker but he was insane his last 10 games or so (at least it seemed). He also only played two years of major college ball... under two different coaches and neither time did he have DJ cooper passing to him. Do I think he's headed for NBA stardom? Probably not, but I wouldn't be shocked by it either. it would be a hell of a story.

Well, I don't have the numbers here but I do not think Trent tried to ever make himself a 3-point shooter. He knew his strengths and played to them. That's what good and smart players do.

I'd say Ndour is just a tweener type guy. Not a big enopugh banger for the NBA and not polished enough to play on the outside. I still think he has a great career overseas.

That's why I think a guy like Campbell, if he works in the weight room and plays to his strengths has some interesting game. For sure a European career but the bigger question is: will he put the time and effort in to transform himself and his game to to an NBA type...time will tell!

No doubt. First noght AB was in the line up he ate Devo, Reg, Baltic and anyone else we threw at him. I do not know the numbers but he was impressive just by his presence. GOod length, good bounce and a nose for the ball. Nice footwork too if my memory serves me correct. AB would go in the lane and get rejected and resorted to shooting from the edge. I think I recall him being like 1-17 or so that night.

Whitehead came off the bench and went 7-11 for 14pts and 17 rebounds. Devo, KVK, Reggie and Ivo combined for 3-17 for 11pts. Bassett was 0-9(0-6). Bobcats shot 25%. Ugly.

City National Bank provides loans for some of the entities for which I work. Tonight, CNB held an appreciation night for their customers: an evening with The Logo, Jerry West.

The g.f. and a workmate and I were in the first row in a movie theater sized auditorium.

First and foremost, Jerry West was a terrific basketball player and is a terrific basketball executive, but he's a better person--a very humble, inspiring speaker who clearly cares more about helping others than his own success. Took plenty of time afterward for personal photos and chat.

During his talk he stated that there are about 60 guys who are drafted each year, with 40 making a team. He cited character as the deciding factor beyond the necessary and assumed physical talent.

He said that he thinks that a free agent has probably never made an all-star game and never made an all-league team.

NBA talent is evident. Or it's not.
