I'm a 1995 Ohio grad. I have no idea who the hell Michael Huger is.

I suppose I was too wrapped up in "Swept By Kent" chants on SportsChannel Ohio and hating on Shane Komives, Jay Larranaga, and Shane Kline-Ruminsky (all of who I just named off the top of my head 20 years after the fact, so take that Alzheimers!)

Michael Huger was a game changing PG. One of BG's best PGs ever. Some would say best. All MAC player last two years 91 and 92 and runner-up MAC POY his senior year. At 5'11". Great mid range game. Captain. Quiet leader. NYC guy with more than 12 years of Jim Larranaga influence/learning between playing and coaching. And Larranaga can coach- and recruit- in tough places. Very very successful Euro pro player before coaching so Huger has done what many players aspire to do.

Key for us is he wants to be in BG. This is what he wants to do. Doesn't mean he can't "win" his way out. But this guy is a Falcon.

Like all hires, it will be several years before we know the outcome.

Good insight falconfan. Sounds like a guy who can build BG for the long term. Not sure what kind of recruits Jans had coming in next year, but hopefully Huger can keep them all committed. That's the biggest thing that hurt us when Saul came here last year so late and we lost all our top recruits.

I've only read about one recruit reopening his commitment so far (Jamir Andrews Juco SG). And even he wasn't released yet, just open to talk to other teams until he meets the coach.

I did see Parker and Dickerson were exploring transfers. That would mean with losing those two, plus the graduating class (Holmes Clark & Henderson), they will need to replace 5 of their top 6 scorers. That will be a tall order.

Ummmm, he finished runner up to Gary Trent for MAC player of the year.

BG is starting to come apart at the seems. Just announced the 5th player from last year's team is transferring out, 1 soph, 1 jr, and 3 seniors. A 6th player, also a senior, is rumored to still be considering. On top of that 1 of their 3 commits has asked for release from his LOI, a junior JUCO.

As of now BG has 5 returning players, 2 incoming freshmen, and 6 unfilled scholarships. Maybe BG and BC can combine to form 1 complete team?

No, I was in college then and saw him play. Huger was the best senior in the MAC that year but Trent was the best player. I kinda find it hard to have no idea who a first teamer was if you followed MAC basketball, but that's just me. I may not recall the exact POY or runner up each year off the top of my head, but I guarantee I have an idea who every All-MAC guy was since the mid90's and on.

BG picks up a freshman commit last night and then turns around today and their starting Sr PG transfers out.

If all of these declared transfers actually transfer out BG will be left with 4 returning players (1 of which didn't play last year), 3 incoming freshmen, and 6 open scholarships.

This looks like a really good hire. Larranaga is one of the most under-rated coaches out there. If he is in that mold, BG did well.

Wonder if Jeff Boals has decided to wait for a high major job?

I lived in North Carolina for those four years when Huger was at BGSU, and it was pre-internet days, so I'm not very familiar with him. But from what I have read, he seems like a great hire. I honestly wish him well. I hope he can piece together a team for next year then get the long term recruits rolling in. He bleeds orange and brown so that helps. Not an opportunist like Jans.

How many jobs has Boals been rumored to be "on the list" for, and not gotten? Seems like there have been quite a few.

I don't feel so bad. I was wondering how the heck I didn't remember the guy but my scenario was similar to yours albeit slightly north of NC. BG wasn't featured too prominently on the George Michael Sports Machine back in the day.

Interesting responses on the BG forum where posters admonished anyone who was starting the "paulus and boals" suggestions during the coaching search. I am not sure that the money tO$U assts make ....why they would want to go to a mid. Seems like the arms race the last five years has done well on the assts side for most guys in those positions.

The money factor is a really good point. I guess it also depends on how bad someone wants to be a head coach.
