I don't see it. Hurley impresses me as a guy who makes a change for a bigger job than this.

No way he goes to Fordham. Next step opportunity he would consider would have to be triple the beefs $ - minimum. Why start all over again at Fordham? Reason not to would be very similar to why P5 teams don't want to play us......

If he gets a $1.5K to $2K offer somewhere I see him bolting. If not I see him staying in hot wing town another year to raise the stakes.

Did you mean $1.5 million?

I am surprised Rutgers does not see a natural fit, current coach has always seemed like a place holder to me

Rutger's facilities for anything but football, and the current administration's attitude toward sports, are gonna make it hard to attract a decent, let alone good coach.

The RAC is undersized and out dated.
One of their biggest supporters called RU's facilities "Not Big Ten ready".

Their president and A.D. have said not to look for facility upgrades for at least 10 years.

In a recent article about it they said (I'm paraprhasing) "they are in the process of puting together a plan to put together a plan to upgrade facilities."

Whatever that means.

Their wrestling room is so small they have to stagger practices.

What's his buyout at Buffalo?

If it is anything like Geno Ford's or John Groce's, he's not leaving for anything except a $1 million+ payday.

Can somebody hit a pull up jumper for me?.....

SO really instead of racking on Northwestern that is in the top 50 of 350 schools in spendig we should be hammering Rutgers for sitting there reking in money and not planning to spend anymore.

Hurley grew up in Jersey City and attended St Anthony's, a notoriously underfunded and ancient catholic HS. To say he would not take the Rutgers job because of facilities is a bir crazy and would be a little uncomfy at dinner when his pops is in his almost 40th year of coaching in those old st anthony's facilities. http://www.cbsnews.com/news/coach-bob-hurley-the-sage-of-.../

For anyone to think rutgers is below BH I would think that coming home and the recruiting advantages he sees would be quite attractive....and part of the family mission

It will be almost impossible to recruit and win with Fordham's gym.

Small, sure. But it's an incredible gym. The oldest in the country.

There's a big difference recruiting high school and college.Especially in North Jersey.
St.Anthony's recruits on Hurly's reputation alone.

I know a lot of Rutgers' grads and they say The RAC was undersized since it was built. They called it an embarassment and that was before they went into the B1G.
Rutgers found out that, until they improved their football facilities they had trouble landing even 3 star recruits with a very popular coach.

In addition to facilities,Rutgers also has budget issues that could affect how much they could pay a couch, especially since they have had issues with getting donations with their current president and A.D.

Our coach goes to Illinois, people raise holy hell about it not being enough of a step up.

Yet in separate threads I'm seeing Bradley and Fordham touted as landing spots for Bobby Hurley.

Never change BobcatAttack, never change.

Whoever thought Illinois wasn't enough of a step might reconsider the Illini's basketball budget and JG's salary. It's quite a lot different than Fordham or Bradley.

When JG was considering leaving, my only concern for him was the stability of the situation with the AD and Illinois president. I can't recall the situation for each though. I was thinking Mike Thomas was on the hot seat?

And there are people in here who say DePaul is the worse job in America. Hard to figure where folks are coming from.

People expect a lot of winning in a place no one can win. It's a career killer. I stand by it.

That's the same kind of thinking that people on here used when Baylor was looking for a football coach a while back. I argued that it was possible to win at places "where no one can win". I stand by my conclusion that you can win at a place like DePaul for the reasons stated above in the DePaul thread. Time will tell.

I'll roll out Ohio football as Exhibit B.

When did anyone say it was not a big enough step up? The prevailing thought on here was that we would lose John Groce the day the Illinois job opened up.

My wife's a Fordham grad, so I loosely follow their team. It's a tough call with regard to the gym. While historic it's been debated often about building something new. The program just has not been able to take any sort of big step since moving up from the Patriot League. That being said it is a step up in competition, exposure, academics, etc than Buffalo. How big a step up is debatable.

Any rumours out there about saying good bye to Lavin and bringing Hurley to St Johns?

Arkley retweeted something about Senderoff being a candidate for Fordham. Kent would be rolling in buyout cash.

It's a multiple bid league so it is a step up from the MAC. Getting one of those bids when you are competing with teams with bigger facilities will be difficult.

Wow. I guess he was an assistant there before, but I don't know why anyone would want a career underachiever who's essentially won nothing and has a sketchy ethical past.

A refresher: http://www.insidethehall.com/2008/02/13/summary-of-ncaa-a.../

For a guy who could easily have been fired at Kent prior to the performance of this year's team, getting an A-10 job as a reward would be incredible.

Speaking of Fordham this is humorous...

From the Facebook page of a full professor there: “Fordham just fired another men's basketball coach, Tom Pecora, several years after hiring him at the astounding salary of $660,000 a year. Once again, I would like to offer myself as a candidate for the position. I guarantee you I will win as many games as any coach you hire, and I will do the job for half the salary, using the other half to start a much needed childcare center for faculty, students and staff. Plus think of the favorable publicity that would accrue to Fordham for hiring an actual faculty member as coach. What do you think Fordham students and alums? Should I become the next men's head basketball coach?”
