Will a win over Ohio bring down their RPI enough to knock Buffalo out of at large consideration?

Kroger Deli?

I'll never forget on the sitcom Coach when Luther bought wings for the whole football team in Buffalo and they ended up being tainted and whole team got sick.

There are no best chicken wings. There are 8 billion different places that serve wings and you could never EVER know. so don't say you do when you don't. Most of them are the same $#!& anyway. Fry chicken, add sauce. Some sauce good some bad. some spicy some not. completely subjective.

There. I said it.

That's the point, though, right? Wings, beer, wine, steak, whatever, subjective opinions from people about their choice for "best" equals interesting discussion? If you're not interested, don't discuss.

Are they really in an at large discussion? Seems to me they'd have to run the table to the MAC title game to even have a 1% chance. My math says that would get them to 24-9, which is great, but I'm not sure it's enough.

Buffalo jumped up to #33 in RPI this weekend, that starts to put them in at-large range. Ironically by beating Kent State for the second time they knocked Kent out of the RPI top 100 to #102, denying the Bulls 2 top 100 wins, but Kent may crawl back in. The only other RPI top 100 wins Buffalo has is their first game of the season vs #97 S Dakota State and #86 BGSU. looking at SDSU's remaining schedule I doubt they ystay in the top 100. Currently Buffalo is 2-5 vs top 100. Not good. All of their losses except 1 are against teams with an RPI of #135 or better, their one bad loss is against those over celebrating fools in Athens with an RPI of #238.

UB's remaining games are at home vs #238 Ohio and #86 BGSU. Buffalo is currently a #4 seed. Assuming they play #5 in Cleveland that would be Kent again and then some combination of the top 3 seeds, most likely, which are all top 100. So.. Buffalo can probably stay near #33 or do even better, losing in the final round in Cleveland MIGHT give them a shot at an at-large. MIGHT.

Buffalo has zero signature wins and would have at least 10 losses if they don't earn an automatic bid. No chance at an at-large.

I agree with JSF - they're not legit at large contenders. I think anyone getting an at large from the MAC needs to have 2-3 Top 100 wins, and only about 5 losses. Non-Conf scheduling and at large are interesting things to discuss. UB built a pretty nice schedule, but has a couple ugly losses, including to Ohio, that hurt them.

I wonder how their RPI could be that high? More power to them but I have NOT seen them in any discussion or conversations about At Large schools. With an RPI that high, if they were in a Power Conf they would be in so why aren't they? Oh, they are from the MAC, that lowly one bid conference!

Other than Kentucky and Wisc, they haven't played anyone better than a 75 RPI. What they've done right is not lose much to the 150+ crowd; they're 13-1 (guess who's the 1). Hurley may have painted his team into a corner again this year. They likely won't win the regular season MAC, so an automatic NIT bid may be out. At-large NIT is also iffy. The CIT and CBI are beneath him, so if they don't win the MAC tourney, they might be sitting home again this year with 20+ wins.

there is no conference conspiracy in men's basketball. This is not FBS. Buffalo has an RPI of #33, some teams being mentioned as on the bubble, according to this article below in today's USA Today are #31Michigan State, #32 Oregon and #37 St. Johns. Now look at how these teams compare regarding good wins (RPI 1-100) and bad losses (RPI 101-351)-

Good Wins/Bad Losses
9/2 St. Johns
8/1 Oregon
6/2 Michigan State
2/4 Buffalo

That's why Buffalo isn't in the same conversation, there is no conspiracy. And Buffalo can't blame the MAC for not providing quality competition, they've played 5 games vs top 100 MAC teams so far, unfortunately for UB they went 1-4. Thems the breaks. Like I said, if they keep winning they MIGHT get into the conversation, but if they don't its not because they didn't have the opportunity to earn it.

And yet Dzakich just took up 12 minutes of his show explaining to irate IU fans how a team like say......Buffalo...... could jump IU based on NOncon RPI, Non con SOS, nuetral and away wins ....assuming they lose out in the finals of the MACC. I got a chickle knowing his disdain for Sendy...saying they went in and beat a then top 100 team "The fighting sendys" at Senderhoff Palace and will probably run across BG along the way and have another chance to make a mark. Admonished IU fans for being so elitist and assuming no one could sneak in from the MAC if everything aligned. Nice analysis on his part and pretty complete.

There are still over 100 Div. I teams rated lower than us. Guess that's because of the overall strength of the MAC.

Maybe I should predict another blowout so the score remains relatively close...say less than 14?

The only supporter we have with two teams in is Dicky V. I've heard him say countless times how tough the MAC is. You think with his support and of course Clark "Special K" Kellogg, we'd have more respect. Plus OUr boys making that fabulous run. But I guess the "important" people don't think so. God forbid the ACC have only 5 or 4 teams and the same with the Big Ten and all the other power conferences.

The MAC has had representation on the selection committee more often than not. The committee looks at teams, not conferences, and the exact materials they're looking at are publicly available as well as dozens of stories about the process. It's as transparent as can be expected. There is no conspiracy.
