We are a good team, but we dont have a dominant player to take over a close game. Hope that changes next year. .500 would be a good season this year.

We are not a good "team". We have some players with great potential though

I disagree that we are a good team right now. We have some nice individual pieces but this team isn't good. Not a terrible loss by any means, but 3-4 at this point in the year is not good. I'm most encouraged by our younger guys so I do think we'll see improvement through the year. I've said this before but unless the PG play improves we're not going anywhere.

With Ryan Taylor on majorly reduced minutes it was even more obvious how poorly our Senior guards have played. How many times do our PGs pick up their dribble with nothing to do or drive to the paint only looking for a shot of their own? What has happened to Stevie Taylor? He is shooting something like 15% from 3 this year. He's certainly lacking confidence.

Maybe this team could use a little Hawaiian sunshine......

That was a brutal finish.

They played pretty well for most of the game. Stevie has been a major disappointment. He can't shoot or consistently run the offense.

The fouls were the dagger tonight. Two irresponsible technicals and a flurry of fouls from everyone in the frontcourt. Of course, it's the night where they're shooting pretty well (at least in the first half).

Just gotta head to Hawaii with big dreams, play ball, and get better.

Haven't seen or heard a second of us this year but it's pretty apparent that the upperclassmen aren't the most talented guard set we've ever had. I'm betting their D is not notable.

Also, Egidijus Mockevicius.

I wasn't able to listen to this one. Is there a reasonable explanation for how one team shoots 28 free throws and their opponent shoots 3?

One did not foul .....the other did

One attacked the basket......the other did not.

No where in the rule book or in any session teaching or adjudicating refs does it say that fouls are supposed to be even. Not even sure why this got started or propogates itself.

Disparities in foul numbers happen, obviously. I get that. But a 28-3 spread on free throws is pretty alarming.

jumpers-slashing-posting up=fewer free throws

On principle, I feel obligated to mention that the referees were horrendous. (as always)

I agree. Sometimes this kind of disparity shows questionable refereeing, but last night it was just a neon sign highlighting the flaws we've seen from this team all year. Awful guard play, way too much outside shooting, not moving the ball around and never attacking the basket.

Saul, after the game, said they are great officials. Have done the Final Four. He put the disparity entirely on his team not attacking the basket.

And I would add the "belief" that the home team should get close calls. Agree with you borna, pure rubbish.

Illustrates again how Nick Kellogg carried this team last season...a lot...Nick got to the rim and line a great deal late in his career.

We don't have a Nick Kellogg this year. The two freshman wings have potential to develop into that.

I agree. I think a lack of attacking the basket is our biggest problem and I think that is why so few fouls went our way

The second portion of my post was sarcastic. In accordance with my morals, I always disagree with the officials. Whether they are right or wrong really isn't relevant.

The box score says it all:

-they shot 50% so we played bad defense
-we shot 26 threes and they shot twelve...too much settling for an easy shot early in the clock
-they had 38 rebounds and we had 33 even playing 3 biggs a lot!
-they had 21 assists to our 10. Some may think assists aren't important but teams that move the ball and make the extra pass rather than settling for the first open 3 early in the shot clock when they are shooting at a poor clip (other than tonight)usually win. Still not sure I get the emphasis on our Bigg guys shooting threes rather than getting in the lane and playing inside out...other than the guards aren't shooting that well either?!?

This team has 5 "veterans" so there are some parts. I also agree the young guys have some talent too. Even the coach says there is a good team there somewhere. It's up to the coach to bring out and get it to the floor come game time.

Improved point play and biggs playing inside first says it all.

This is an example of rebound margin as a poor statistic. Evansville got more rebounds not because they were better on the boards but because we missed so many more shots. Ohio was the better rebounding team last night, getting 77.8% of chances on defense to Evansville's 74.4%.

Watched the game and I can't think of one moment in the game where I thought we were getting hosed by the refs (and I'm prone to that sort of thing). There are a million little things that great teams do. We do about 250 of them. Give me Nick, Tommy, Walt and two Middle Schoolers and they beat this team by 30.

There was one play late in the game where we tried to clear out for Bean and Mo. They defended it well so Bean decided to drive which was also defended well. When Bean was stopped the three guys that had cleared to the other side of the court were literally in a straight line one behind the other away from Bean. I'm not saying that Bean would have found any of the three if they had had good spacing but this underscores our issues. We stand around and move the ball slowly...and our offense is well ahead of our defense.

We actually came out and had nice offensive and defensive energy for about the first 8 minutes last night but couldn't sustain it. Hopefully that is something to build on.

The bigs are working hard to get open. Last night only Treg did a good job of reversing the ball so we could get the ball inside close to the basket. It has very little to do with the bigs not playing inside. The window to get the ball inside to a big man is extremely short.

Clearly, our guard play is not ideal.

We take the game to overtime and still can't get under the double digit spread, ouch. This is why I couldn't gamble.

**Frustrating. But really, aside from the horrendous overtime period, there is a lot to like. I know this type of statement annoys people but I think we were the better team tonight that just didn't win, and all without a healthy Ryan Taylor. I really hope Ryan can play somewhat regular minutes in Hawaii.
**We did not attack the rim enough, I agree. Our 2 best attackers are Ndour, who did an OK job attacking, and Tony C, who got just 16 minutes due to foul trouble. If he plays 30 minutes, I think we would've been just fine (but full disclosure, this is the president of the Tony C fan club saying this).
**We have too many dumb defensive fouls in the paint...Our guys need to be more controlled and know when they don't have a play.
**Speaking of, Treg with 5 fouls, 4 turnovers, and 0 assists. He does nice things, but the fouls and turnovers are so prevalent that I just don't like him logging serious minutes. And not that who starts matters much, but I hate the idea of him as a starter. He is the definition of a spark plug off the bench to change things up when you need it.
**Foul trouble for the bigs and still 0 minutes from Chandler Thomas. I told you so.
**38 minutes from Khari, who saw that coming? He seemed to play OK with few mistakes other than shooting too many dumb 3s. He is a nice guy to have in the rotation, but not sold on him as a playmaker.
**Agree with others that there needs to be some more movement, I think it will come with time. This group is very unfamiliar with each other, not to mention playing under a new coach. Eventually they'll have a better sense of where they should be.

Aloha!

Didn't think the refs cost us the game, although I do think their big man got away with a few over-the-back no calls. Our two early technical fouls by our "seniors" set the tone however to our own demise.

As others have mentioned our "senior" guard play has been and continues to be brutal.

Get well soon Ryan Taylor!

What "instigated" the T's on Bean and Mo? Were they looking for calls or upset at calls against them?

There's no such foul as over-the-back.
