I didn't see any other posts about Thompson but you may be talking about me.

"Thompson reminds me of several Marshall players the last few years. He can score but he forces it a lot from what I saw."

I didn't say he couldn't score but he certainly wasn't the same player last night that he was against UCSB (even the announcers made a point of it last night). Even last night he took some of the same shots that we criticized Stevie and Bean for. The difference is last night he hit them.

Minutes played last night-

38- Taylor, Ryan
28- Willis
26- Mompremier
25- NDour
25- Laster
24- Campbell
23- Taylor, Stevie
7- Harley

I love Stevie to death but sometimes his decision making looks like he learned a little too much from Coop. Stevie was 1-7 for 7pts, 0 asst and 1 TO and Ryan wasn't any better at 2-9 for 4pts, 1 asst and 2 TO but it looks like Saul is clear on which guard he's going to go with if both are struggling. Stevie needs to focus on running the offense and letting the others find the points.

Did anyone else think that Campbell wasn't moving well last night?
He looked slow and/or stiff to me. Is he out of shape from whatever injury
he was battling earlier?

our guys fought their butts off last night and I didn't see any finger pointing or bad body language when we got down big either. Shot selection was questionable at times but only because they missed, its hard to take a shot out of context, I understand why they sometimes take a quick 3 when they are trying to change the momentum. Its what we loved/hated about DJ.

Frankly, this is exactly what we needed this early in the season, getting punched in the mouth and embarrassed can be a good thing in the long run.

Teachable moments...lots of them.

I noticed early on, there was a play where he ended up on the floor and got up slowly, wincing. My first thought was he aggravated the knee.

Didn't see the game...but these seem notable: R Taylor far and away the most minutes played....I gotta think that Kellogg and Wilkins left a lot to replace--gonna take some time to find the replacing.

I have to agree with you Monroe. This will be a work in progress as this group of kids and this new coach "learn" each other, and come together. Leadership, and how this leadership develops will be key to this team. I sense that Saul Ball will allow the players to make important decisions about how this team will evolve and grow, but if progress is not shown in critical areas like shot selection, "touches" for our bigs inside, and team defense, then we might see Saul become more demanding and tighter on the reigns to make sure that the ball is going where it needs to go, and the offense explores the opponents defense before we take too many "early" shots, or jack early 3's.
Coaching styles and methods to motivate their teams is intersting to observe, especially in a situation like ours with a new coach and staff! I have confidence that Coach knows what he is looking for, and he will recognize what he sees as this team takes shape. We are very early in the process, and patience is a good thing all around !

Yeah, but if we don't win a MAC title in Saul's first 10 years, I'm gonna tell ya about it. (justkidding)

To all you guys who jumped on the Ryan Taylor band wagon after 1 game, what happened tonight?

As one of our most hated coaches would say after a game like this "THAT'S LIFE ON THE ROAD".

1 thing is for sure......after 2 games we have shown that we can't play 2 halves well. Saul has some work to do.

I am still on the Taylor/laster Bandwagon. I think these guys are going to have stellar freshman seasons.

FGCU challenged shots, hurried shots and made bad shots look good, they kept us way below our normal shooting %. It was a bad night and worse for the frosh on the road.

I like those 2 and I think they are going to have stellar seasons......always remembering the addage taught to me by a coach that makes so much sense...."Freshman are like AM radios as you drive down the road through the dark night, they are strong and weak, they fade in and out"

Those august members of the board will relate immediately, the rest of you are going to have to find a road trip and limit your listening to the AM radio

Not surprised. For some on this board, it only takes one bad half for them to completely quit on a team.

I've seen crazier things happen.

remember when early reports out of Summer practice had Kendall Crute as the best looking freshman? I hope it wasn't true.

Someone else posted concerns about us looking small and thin compared to FGCUs athletes. Primarily, that's the freshmen, R. Taylor and M. Laster. I'm not worried about it. They both have the frames to add weight. High majors have the luxury of recruiting mostly finished products physically. Mid majors, on the other hand, sign guys with the proverbial "strong upside." Guys who aren't finished products physically as freshmen. I am confident that Taylor and Laster will develop, get bigger and stronger.

speak for yourself 71 and get your history right. "Hated" is wrong for TOS and that quote was always about the MAC, not any road game.

OK geezers, it's quiz time: What name did Dick Biondi use to refer to OU? He had a large following in Athens, as in the rest of the Midwest, and virtually any time someone from Athens called up, he'd say something like, "Oh, the home of _____ ." Hint: This made-up name had only one different word in it from the original name of The Ohio University. This was no doubt total coincidence, since I'm sure Biondi didn't have any knowledge of Ohio University history.

Hah, that's a perfect analogy.
