If Kaminski does not get a waiver, he will not be eligible.

Transfers aren't eligible to play even in an exhibition (or secret scrimmage)...we go through this debate every year it seems. But Simmons and Kaminski will have to sit.

Was there chatter last time?? I don't think any rational Marietta fan would believe they'd be able to win even in our worst years. I know a few that follow the team over that way, and coming to the Convo is more just a novelty for them.

I do think it was a smart move getting Marietta for Dad's Weekend though...making the best of it. Don't think there'd be nearly as much attendance if we were playing some other random D3. Marietta/OU bball is a big deal in SE Ohio. Should be an every year sort of game.

A guy in my office was the starting QB at Marietta. He had to quit the team at the end of his junior year after his 8th concussion. He also had $120,000 in student loans and a Business Administration degree. He admits that he was caught up in the sales process of "playing college football" as a high school senior and regrets that decision every month when he makes that loan payment. A large percentage of the less than 1400 student population are varsity athletes. I think D-III schools unfairly target kids to continue their glory days and keep playing sports.

Maybe there was a place for these small, private colleges decades ago, but I can't believe people would spend $40,000/yr to get a business or education degree. I understand there are specialty programs, such as Marietta's Petroleum Engineering Dept, that are worth every penny. I just don't agree with the overpriced general diploma.

Personally, I don't think too much of the quality of basketball at the D-III level. Marietta College recruited me as a high school senior, which is enough to convince me it's not that good.

My final decision when deciding on colleges was between Ohio and Marietta. When I got both financial aid packages back from both schools, Marietta ended up being the cheaper school to attend. I'm not one to toot my own horn much but I had a pretty good academic profile and one school recognized it and one did not. Marietta also gave me the opportunity to play sports at the collegiate level that I would not have had in Athens.

Now I say this as an avid Ohio supporter, I was in Athens every home Saturday for football games and made the short trip down Route 7 for many basketball games and still do when I can. I do however not regret choosing Marietta for my education and it is possible to attend the school at a reasonable price if you do your due diligence academically and put in the work.

Good work, MCF.

Just a little it, though I think it was more playful than anything else. There were some who expected it to be competitive.

Another funny thing to me about their system is that they have a JV team. MC's JV team had an impressive 7-2 record last year, so I expect those guys to step up this year on the varsity team.

I really doubt Marietta gives Ohio any challenge this year but do remember OAC member Wilmington beat Miami in Oxford last year in a regular season game.

What we really need to do is get Dad's weekend back in the winter when we have a home MAC game. My guess is most dads will be uptown/in an apartment with their kids watching a college football game that day.

+1. Make Mom's weekend in the fall/winter instead.

one thing is for sure Marietta will bring a good crowd. One of the best places to watch a college basketball game is at Marietta. Place goes nuts.

Once again Ohio struggled with a bad d3 team last year. Heidelberg was really bad, I saw them on two other occasions, they were terrible. If your right them off then you better watch out. You can't compare d3 football to basketball either. Wilmington football is probably the worst college football in Ohio if not the country. However we all remember what they did to Miami a couple of years back. I guarantee you Miami fans remember. There are some sports where d3 teams do very well against d1. Men's Swimming and Diving for one. Kenyon and Denison always do well when competing against d1 schools in that sport. I bet Ohio won't schedule a baseball game against Marietta either. Losing to Rio Grande is something I'm sure the coaching staff doesn't want to see happen again.

Does anyone know if there will be a webcast for this game?

I know that in the past there has not been for exhibition games, and people complain about it every year. Does that trend continue this year...?

I thought I heard Russ mention during the Buffalo recap that he would be on the air this Saturday at 1:30 for the tip at 2.

I would really like a video stream online. I don't even need Russ. Just a camera to follow the action and a score graphic.

FWIW, it's not listed on the Stretch Internet schedule: http://portal.stretchinternet.com/ohio/

While we're at it, bring back the Quarter system so that Ohio's in session during the entire month of May. I'm probably tilting against windmills on that one though.....
