So if I understand what some of you are saying. If OU had a game on super bowl Sunday I shouldn't watch the super bowl because OU is playing a mid major team at home and I should go to the game. I'm pretty sure it's ok to watch a big college football game at home instead of driving 50+ miles to go to the game. Now I will be at the game because I'm a student but you can guarantee that if I was at home and had to drive 3 hours there and back I would probably be watching OSU/MICH (while streaming OU of course). For many people, especially in Ohio, that game is like the Super Bowl. I have no problem with them watching it.

Right--we should schedule when it is most opportune for us, forgetting about other events.

I'm thousands of miles away so probably the least expert but it would seem to me that Sunday (and M-F) are tough on those who come from over 50 miles away. On Saturday, we should sched so that people have time to get into town (so no 10am starts) and can get home at a reasonable hour (so probaby start no later than about 4pm).

That's it; we aren't second tier--we schedule off what's right for us, for allowing folks to travel in..and with little regard to other events.

Ohio could do that if going to Ohio's game was the top priority for 13,000 people every week. It's not. Whatever else is going on does directly effect attendance and Ohio has to try to schedule at the time when the highest number of people will show up. If the game time is too late or too early, as you said, it will keep people away, but if there are other things people want to do that keeps them away, too.

I'm wondering if one of the things we haven't mentioned, which certainly affects football scheduling, is the possibility of TV? The MAC doesn't play football games in November on weeknights cause it pulls the most people through the turnstiles.

While this isn't a season that warrants non-con TV coverage, these times & days could be associated with the contracts of both schools/conferences involved. Evansville on a weeknight at 9et/8ct seems strange. Why not 7 central?

We can all get in a urinating match about who's the more loyal fan by never picking a nationally televised football game over an Ohio Basketball home game, but until there's long lines to use the urinals (and blue stalls) in the Convo every game, I'm quite ok with at 7pm Saturday of Thanksgiving weekend start.

Ya know, it could always be worse... We could be EMU Eagles fans.

One thing I have always loved about the Convo is the plethora of restrooms. Even if we had a sellout over 13k, there are enough bathrooms to go around.

Now if we could just get some xlerators in there.......

I've seen crazier things happen.

There is strategic scheduling to avoid O$U when possible. Not sure why this is rocket science here...

I'm a little perplexed as to the beef certain fans have with 2pm starts? IMO, 4pm is getting on the late side and cutting into dinner time and other activities. I also think it's good to keep things consistent (2pm or 7pm starts) when possible, as we have done in recent years.

You can do whatever you want. I would be in the Convo. Bobcat BBall is my #1 team as a fan and loyal supporter - of any sport, any team, any game that is being played, anywhere, anytime.

I bet you would find like minds (different teams of course) in Lexington/anywhere KY (and outlying - likely Looval as well), Durham and/or Chapel Hill/anywhere NC (and outlying), Bloomington/anywhere IN (and outlying), etc., etc., etc.

OU, Oh Yeah. All the time, not just sometimes...........

I told my non-sports wife about my post last night and explained the blue stall thing. Her response "I've never noticed... And who cares?" I then mentioned that someone was bound to mention hand dryers...

To that she said "men talk way too much about bathrooms and what goes on in them."

Here's my logic on 2pm starts, first for out of town fans, then for students.

For out of town fans like me, 2pm starts, if I want to also enjoy the things Athens offers, means leaving home at 9:30am or a bit earlier. While that isn't a big deal for me, for some others coming from farther, it is. My logic is usually simple: I like to get into town, have lunch and enjoy a few adult sodas before the game. By that logic, Athens establishments sell more lunches and sodas to out of town fans if the game is later. Also more people may be more likely to stay in town for the night after games after a 4pm tip than a 2pm tip-off.

In terms of students, based on my memory of when I graduated (gulp) a little over a decade ago, some are barely getting out of bed at noon or one. Getting those folks to a noon or 2pm game isn't happening as easily as it would at 4pm. Maybe I'm off on this, but again, I'm basing it on my recollections. A 2pm tip was never hard for me as a student, but I had friends who thought otherwise.

Regardless, I think it's a given that late afternoon and evening games on Saturdays are more rowdy and exciting for almost everyone.

A Hand dryer is like sex: it's only important when it's missing. It's because the hand dryers are clearly so-substandard and underpowered that they cause you to miss more basketball when you go to the bathroom. For others, it might cause them to skip the whole hand-washing step and just go back to their seats, where they can spread germs and cause disease and kill people.

So, seriously, new hand dryers will save lives.

Sounds like your hand dryers aren't very satisfying.

New Poll question idea:

How many times have you decided to not to offer a handshake to an acquaintance after walking out of a Convo restroom?

Every Time - Handshakes are a "passe" male dominated society cultural ritual
A Lot - I just look down at the floor and hope they don't recognize me
Not Sure - But every time I tried to duck an ex prof I disappointed and fail (again)
Once - When I ran into my ex's husband (Jeesh, why did I let that one get away).
Couple times - When I ran into my ex student days landlord that I still owe rent $.
Never - I go "Green" - natural "air" dry is fine.
Why? - I am from Huntington and a troll - I just wipe my hands on my clothing.

I'm withholding further comment on bathroom habits until I hear what non-sports wives think of this one.

Meanwhile, next time I come to the Convo I'm bringing Bounty towels and a dozen roses.

Non-sports wife (NSW) agrees with DFC's summation on the importance of hand dryers.

Furthermore, she began to rant about every bathroom in Athens being horrible, so why do we expect anything different from the Convo?

It's a good thing she doesn't really care, or her diatribes would be even more OT than mine become.
