@OhioMensBball Announces Non-Conference Tip Times
Bobcats open 2014-15 campaign by hosting Marietta College at 2 p.m. ET on Nov. 8.

ATHENS, Ohio -- The Ohio men's basketball team announced tip times for its seven 2014-15 non-conference home games at the Convocation Center.

The Bobcats will open the 2014-15 campaign at the Convo against NCAA Division III Marietta College at 2 p.m. ET on Nov.  8. The regular season schedule then begins with a 2 p.m. ET meeting on Nov. 15 against Appalachian State.

After a visit to Florida Gulf Coast for a 7 p.m. ET matchup on Nov. 19, Ohio begins a stretch of four straight home games. The 'Cats play host to Arkansas-Pine Bluff (Nov. 25) and Belmont (Nov. 29) in a pair of 7 p.m. ET meetings. Ohio then welcomes St. Bonaventure (Dec. 6) and Alcorn State (Dec. 13) in two 2 p.m. ET matchups to open the month of December.

The Bobcats visit Evansville on Dec. 18 at 9:05 p.m. ET before spending the holiday season on the beautiful beaches of Hawai'i, taking part in the 2014 Hawaiian Airlines Diamond Head Classic. The eight-team Diamond Head Classic, will feature 12 games through three days. Each team will compete in one game per day, advancing through the bracket. The two teams that remain undefeated throughout will face off in the championship game on the final day of the tournament. Ohio opens the Diamond Head Classic against George Washington on Dec. 22 in a nationally televised 2:30 p.m. ET matchup on ESPNU.

Non-conference play concludes for Ohio with a 7 p.m. ET showdown against UNC-Wilmington on Dec. 30 in Athens.

Ohio will announce tip times for its 2015 conference games at a later date.

The Bobcats enter a new era in 2014-15 under first-year head coach Saul Phillips, who led North Dakota State University to 26 wins and a berth in the NCAA Championship last season. NDSU's run was highlighted by the No. 12-seeded Bison knocking off No. 5-seeded Oklahoma in the Second Round. Ohio is coming off a 25-17 campaign in 2013-14 in which it reached the 20-win plateau for the third-straight season, tied for the second-most wins in program history and posted two victories in the CollegeInsider.com Tournament in the program's fifth-consecutive postseason appearance.

Only one even remotely surprising is Belmont being a Saturday night game. Should be able to get a good crowd for that one (by break standards, that is)

Someone, anyone, please tell me why we can't more regularly have a 4pm Saturday afternoon tip off?

For people that are driving from out of town, and there are a good number of us who do, it would be ideal to be able to come down for lunch and enjoy campus or uptown.

I hate that this game is on the Saturday of Thanksgiving weekend. That's probably why it's a night game. Tons of college football being played that day.

Florida/FSU
Ole Miss/MSU
Notre Dame/USC
Alabama/Auburn
Michigan/OSU

ETC, ETC, ETC...virtually every rivalry game of the year is scheduled that day.

I hate that it is because I am unable to go, regardless of tip time. That said, being able to go, and spending the afternoon in Athens watching those games and then hitting The Convo would be a great day!

Crapola . . . I'll still be in Maine at my daughter's for Thanksgiving, not getting back until Sunday or Monday. Not the first time that a very appealing non-conference game was cleverly scheduled so I couldn't be there. Must be my lack of basketball karma. :-)

I'll give GoCats105 the benefit of doubt. I think the reference to those games is that many 'casual" fans may be more inclined to watch those than make a trip to the Convo on Thanksgiving weekend. I for one think the Ole Miss/MSU game might be the biggest thing to happen in Mississippi since Jerry Clower's first album was released - I really want to watch that game.

Belmont is a top Mid Major BBall program - but certainly not a household name or marquee opponent. I bet if you walked down Court Street (or Any street outside of Tennessee) not 1 in 50 could tell you where Belmont is, or even "what" it is if you did not include the word "university" in the question.

All kidding aside, this is true. To top it off my second grandchild is scheduled to arrive on the eve of the WMU football game. :-) As soon as the blessed event occurs my wife will be flying off to Maine and her rooting skills will temporarily be on hold. However, I'm going to redeem family honor by buying the kid an OHIO bib. (Don't yet know the sex as my daughter and son-in-law don't want to be surprised.)

Exactly. Especially umm, OSU/Mich? Regardless of where you went to school, you're gonna watch that game if you grew up in Ohio.

Grew up in the shadow of the horseshoe (walked to games back in the 1970s) and have no interest (unless I think UM has a chance (which i don't) ).

I did until recently only to root for the team that the guys I played with in high school played for. That would be Michigan. The brady came along and I go golfing.

Uh - sure read me wrong. I was born at to$u hosptial when parents were students there. No way I EVER watch a to$u vs ANYBODY FBall game vs attending an OHIO game at the Convo no matter who we are playing (and I live in Columbus).

I stand corrected for the folks on this board. Would it matter if the football game was a different time than the Ohio basketball game? I'm not sure if it's being played under the lights.

I knew JSF wouldn't be watching it.

If I had the opportunity to attend the Ohio game, that would be choice #1. After that, I would watch from home... What would I watch from home?
Ready to have your mind blown? Both.
Assuming our basketball game isn't on TV channel, 90% of the time I have it streaming on my computer with another game playing on my TV. 10% of the time I will put the game on my TV via a connection to my computer. The reason that is a small % is because I only do that if the feed is a good quality.

Just because I would easily choose the Ohio basketball game does not mean I think it is a good idea to schedule a game when many casual fans have other games on their minds. Seems like common sense to me. Do not schedule when OSU plays Michigan. Do not schedule when the Browns and Bengals play. We continue to do that and it is costing us fans at the games. Oh, and don't schedule a home game Thanksgiving weekend!

Sorry, but we schedule when we want. We don't go around with some 'we're second tier' attitude.

Or else we will be.

This program is at the point where the timing of a game could easily influence the number of people at our games by a thousand people. I don't think that is insignificant and I don't think it should be ignored.

I don't consider avoiding NFL Sunday as second tier. Does Ohio State play Sunday games? Do the Browns play their games on Saturday nights? Nope.
Does that make them "second tier?"

I know many don't think attendance matters at all. Personally, I think the atmosphere in our arena is an important factor to the future growth and success of this program.

I agree with the premise of your thoughts here, which is why the time of the game should be considered to be a key part of home court advantage when it is feasible. For example, a later than 2pm afternoon tip on most Saturday's, in theory could allow for more butts in the seats and more rowdy of a crowd.

Right--we should schedule when it is most opportune for us, forgetting about other events.

I'm thousands of miles away so probably the least expert but it would seem to me that Sunday (and M-F) are tough on those who come from over 50 miles away. On Saturday, we should sched so that people have time to get into town (so no 10am starts) and can get home at a reasonable hour (so probaby start no later than about 4pm).

That's it; we aren't second tier--we schedule off what's right for us, for allowing folks to travel in..and with little regard to other events.
