The second round of the NBA draft is all about upside and taking chances that some players will develop. I think Mo has another level he can ascend to whereas you knew what you were getting with DJ.

Agreed - if he can consistently play at the highest level he showed last year, this thread will be fun to return to in the spring. Additionally, since he is considered a "foreign" player, and the second round is about potential, he has a very good chance of being drafted and stashed overseas by a smart NBA team. Which means Fran Fraschilla may be talking about him come draft night.

I agree, Shabamon.

To source my FIBA point.

I've also been assured that Ohio University's Maurice Ndour is going to be studied closely by the NBA teams in attendance

Obviously, that doesn't translate to "he will be drafted" but I think there is absolutely a chance. The Andy Katz point was referencing what Katz said in the video posted earlier this week on this board, which basically was that "Saul Phillips is really, really high on NDOUR's potential." Again, that doesn't translate to "Ndour is going to be drafted" but I do think it is interesting to consider that he may just have the combination of size, athleticism and ball-skills that NBA teams look for.

I think Mo can make some real noise if he can put in a Trent/Hunter-like performance of 20+pts/10+rebs. but the question is- what are the chances Mo can put up those types of numbers?

To this untrained eye, Mo has some serious upside. First, he hasn't been playing ball that long. Even in his one year with us, he seemed to find that he could do things, he had talent that he might not have realized.

Certainly, playing with top players had to be beneficial. I advocated for him to spend the summer playing against the very best. Now, let's see the results.

Would love to see him about 20 lbs stronger/bigger than last year, also.

I ran into Nature Boy last weekend on Court Street. He was happily playing Bongos or some other type of drum instrument out on the sidewalk. He's pretty talented.

What Caris Lavert does doesn't affect me at all. Endeavors.

I predict 18+/8+, more assists and steals than Trent or Hunter, and that there will be noise......

You are correct when you say he wouldn't be thought of the same way if he had come here. Where a kid is recruited is a part of the weeding out process. That's not to say he couldn't prove himself here; Jamerson, Snoopy, Trent. But everything being equal they will take a high major guy over a mid major guy. It's called CYA.

Remember, Maurice Ndour was a high major guy coming out of Monroe CC. Multiple Big East programs offered him. He came to Ohio by his own choice.

Ohio still has a strong core returning, including senior forward Maurice Ndour, who played for the Senegalese national team in this summer’s FIBA World Cup.
Phillips has been working with Ndour, a 6-foot-10 forward, and is still trying to figure out how to implement him in the Bobcats’ offense because of his ability to score from all over the floor.
“We’re all high on Mo — the guy’s special,” Phillips said. “We’re going to have NBA scouts drifting through town to watch the guy play, they don’t do that if you’re a stiff.”
