In July? Thanks, Obama!

I seriously give Cleveland like a 5% chance of a title before James retires.

Players will flock to CLE to play with him.  Kevin Love has hinted he'd sign a long term deal to play with Lebron in CLE if traded to Cavs.  It has been a great week for the city of Cleveland.

If they can get Kevin Love without giving up Wiggins that would be unreal, but I am betting Wiggins will be a must-have for a Love deal.  Even without Love right now I think they could win the East, but probably not beat the best of the West.  Add Love and I like their chances.

They need one more quality big on top of Love before I can take them seriously as a contender for the NBA title. Can they also get Pau Gasol? That would be much more preferable IMO than getting Ray Allen and Mike Miller. I've read that the Cavs offered Bennett, Waiters, and a future 1st rounder to the Wolves.

Perhaps I am having a brain-freeze.  Don't I recall numerous posts where you called out Lebron for giving up in the playoffs? For quitting?   Now you rush to post of his return.  Hmmm.  Maybe my memory is off.

Irving-Love-LeBron-Wiggins-someone else would be an absolutely lethal smallball lineup with Varejao coming in off the bench to wreak havoc.

I hope a lot of kids read or hear that letter. It's everything we ever wanted our greatest athlete to be: forgiving, gracious, proud, realistic, understanding of multiple perspectives and yet still unbending in his convictions and about his past decisions.

I'm happy LeBron James is back. I'm even happier that letter is a thing that actually happened and wasn't just part of an Aaron Sorkin script for a schmaltzy sports movie. America's greatest athlete was heartfelt, open, strong, thoughtful and mature.

I refuse to be cynical about that. That letter's existence means so much to me. It's a man proud of where he comes from, who wants to help and who has grown up. And he happens to be Superman on the basketball court. That's  effing cool. It just is.

From a (much needed) Bobcats perspective - this could help Akron quite a bit? I'm not sure. If it does, then this absolutely blows even more than LeBron being back in Cleveland does for me (I'm born & raised in Chicago = Bulls fan).

That said, I feel good for Cleveland fans. I won't say that they deserve it because they've mostly came across as a bunch of whiners to me - I mean, are you kidding - there are so many cities that have had bad teams for YEARS. And it's absolutely clear to me that Cleveland fans would rather lose just to say they are the most "tortured" fanbase than rally around a team making a playoff run like the Indians last year. It really is pathetic.

That said, I don't think there's any ill intention behind that. All of this said, the Bulls are most likely screwed any way you slice it.

Go Bobcats!

Well, it might help Carmelo decide to go to Chicago. That would make the Bulls the East favorites in my eyes.

I used to be against Melo to the Bulls but now I'm OK with it. Thibs will mold a team to succeed which is the only reason I think Melo would work. I don't think there's a chance Melo comes here though. He's staying in NY.

Lucky,
I wonder if Wade will be inspired by his friend's letter and come "home" to Chicago...

That letter is one of my favorite things in sports ever. You could put me in the extremely angry camp when he left and I was not fully supportive on bringing him back the last couple years and in the buildup this week. I always said I would take him because it would be good for the city but I couldn't really root for him without an explaination. That letter went beyond an explanation. That letter is everything I could ever want to hear a Cleveland athete say.

As for the basketball side, I really hope the Cavs do not give up Wiggins. Lebron and Wiggins would be VERY interesting together. Two guys who are traditionally viewed as "3's" but both have the talent, versatility and mostly of all atheticism to play multiple spots. Really excited to see what they can do together.

I've seen crazier things happen.

I wonder if Bosh's decision to stay in Miami causes Carmelo to consider signing with the Heat.

How do you unburn a Lebron Cavs jersey?

Your memory is not off. He trashed him for leaving almost as much as the Cavs' owner did. And he also said the Cavs shouldn't have drafted him initially.

Almost as bad - the Bulls end up backing into Gasol. Oh well. They've been a dysfunctional organization for a few years now.

I think Gasol has a couple years left in him. All they need is a reliable shooter and they'll be pretty formidable.

Meh, Gasol has done pretty much nothing recently to get me excited about the signing.

As long as Thibs is at the helm, I think the Bulls will be formidable. Championship quality? I still have a lot of doubts. 2011 seems like such a long time ago.

LA had turned into such a bad place for him. If San Antonio was still going after him even after resigning Diaw, there's still something there.

I was listening to ESPN Radio when the news broke.  Cowherd read the letter.  I literally had goosebumps.

Depends on which Gasol you guys are referring. Pau or Marc?
