Cautiously optimistic?? C'mon, Napoleon knows he's coming back...

I'll give the kid the benefit of the doubt that he's rehabilitated and doesn't do the same stuff and has remorse for what he did. But there are doubts.

For basketball reasons, of course KD wants him back. The Akron PG's weren't exactly stellar last year.

The only reason I say bring him back is that he has to come to the Convo and play in front of the OZone. Time to start planning boys. Time to start planning. Time to take things to a new height. A bit higher one may say.

I'm cautiously optimistic that if Abreu comes back he'll waddle around like an out of shape penguin. He was barely in shape when he was playing, no way does he get back in shape after 2 years out.

Now that Ohio is seemingly on the verge of approving medical pot, maybe he'll change his major to their BS/MD program.

I'm for giving people a second chance (for the most part) but they need to have a flat-out zero tolerance policy with him. Any slip-up of any kind and he's gone. And I wouldn't waste a scholly on him.

We seem to support second chances when they are OU kids, so I don't see how we can rip Akron for this. Drug crimes are obnoxious in America anyway.

Good player, but it'll be interesting to see how he fits into the lineup and locker room.

Third chance. He violated the terms of his probation within two weeks of being set free. Failed to appear for his first urine test and was re-jailed.

SBH makes a good point that this would be Abreu's third chance. I guess the question becomes, in rehabilitating someone with a criminal record, what constitutes an appropriate "second chance" or "third chance"? I'm all for giving sincere people a chance to make things right. But there are some roles, jobs, etc., where the damage to a person's reputation is so great that allowing that person to hold the job would harm the public testimony of an institution.

For example, let's say someone is a CEO and has an affair with an intern, and is dismissed...that person may change their ways and feel genuine remorse...but should that person be permitted to serve as a CEO again in that company? Another example would be in a church...let's say a pastor committed adultery with a member of the congregation...that pastor might genuinely change and commit to never let that happen again, but is it appropriate for the pastor to return to serving as pastor of that church?

Tough questions. When someone is guilty of a crime like Abreu's, should he be allowed back on the team he was playing on when the infractions were committed? Or would his high profile role as a player on a basketball team bring derision on the school, even if he's genuinely changed for the better?

what is the NCAA stance on third chances? I forgot how Conseling , testing and failures/convictions are treated .

Unfortunately, it seems like the NCAA consequences for failing an NCAA administered drug test are far more severe than a felony conviction in a court of law for drug trafficking.

In this scenario, if they were both consenting adults, then it's no ones damn business what they did. If either has a spouse, then they have a right to know. If it crosses over to harassment, that's a whole different story. In and of itself, this is a non-issue as far as the CEO's ability to run the company.

I think adultery is a question many would prefer not to touch. But to answer the question, I personally seperate business and pleasure, so to speak. In a spiritual position, adultery is a whole other realm that, in my humblest opinion, disqualifies one from shepherding any flock. Even on television.

If a CEO embezzles funds, I don't know and way for that person to regain the trust of that organization. That bridge is burned. I also don't know how another organization could honestly entrust their leadership to that person either.

But adultery is a difficult "crime" to debate, because people have widely ranging opinions on the seriousness of the offense. Perhaps it is an appropriate comparison to recreational drug use for that reason.

But, in the instance we are seeing play out, this guy was not guilty of abusing a banned substance. There was no innuendo or rumor. He was dealing it.

Even if you believe in making excuses for the sake of winning -- I don't feel like the scales tip in his favor on the "talent level" vs. "criminal offense" front.
