I think Rodell and Kendall can look at a roster and see all the playing time that is going to be available at the wing positions.

Borna, there is no way anyone can control the process. Nothing is a sure thing and kids often think they are better than they are. I recall a kid from Pittsburgh years ago named Kevin Salvatori. He was all set to go to Kent State, and only MAC level schools were recruiting him, then North Carolina made a late rush at him and he goes there. He was also 7ft tall. He was successful, but how many kids did the same thing and rode the pine and transferred?

Duquesne just signed a transfer from Butler, Rene Castro. The asst that recruited him leaves and so does Brad Stevens before he even steps foot on campus. That's a good reason for letting kids transfer more easily.

But in the end, coaches make decisions and kids make decisions and that's life. Sometimes they work out and sometimes they don't. It happens to all the kids and not just basketball players. I don't feel sorry for them. They will figure it out.

I'm afraid that the explosion in number of transfers is an indication that today's kids think they're entitled to a stating position whether they deserve it or not or they're just unable to make logical decisions about where they should go. Society in general is all about changes whether it's jobs, majors, professions, colleges,living locations, etc, so maybe it's where we are today. Coaching changes have probably gone up as well, but there's something else pretty basic going on to explain this trend. Any other ideas that can explain the trend?

The information flows much faster today and kids know where other opportunities lie if they want to leave. Borna can speak to that better than I can. In my day I just wanted to hang on to what I had. I had no idea what was happening in other programs. If I left, where would I go? But then, my Dad worked for the same company all his life, was married to my Mom for over 50 years and my Mom still lives in the same house where I grew up. I always thought you had to work it out and stick with it.

I remember a 7-footer named Martin Nestle that turned down Nee to go to Duke.  We got 100s of signatures (at a football game) on an over-sized welcome card the weekend he visited.  Never got off the bench at Duke.

Butler is now up to 4 transfers since the end if the season. Talk about lack of stability.

I have been talking to the Butler faithful all season about a serious upgrade in bodies and talent. Brown just left today saying he did not want to play behind Dunham and Roosevelt for 2 years. Etherington transferred in today from IU ..that is a bigger body and a Butler type system guy. It is going to be a process as they have gone from Horizon level talent to A10 to Big East in 2 years. Big upgrades not usually put on a roster. 

Holtmann was the best thing Collier could have done for first year coach Brandon Miller. Experience and brains backing up Miller. 

They will figure it out.  We talk about following Groce....how about following Stevens. Tough.

I wonder if we take a look at Elijah Brown? Averaged 6 ppg in the Big East as a Freshman. Plus coming here would put him closer to his pops up in Cleveland.

Great article. I think it's part and parcel of coaches moving and kids being more aware of where they might fit in and do well. The kid makes a big decision and it doesn't work out. He's a little wiser and sees where it might work out for him. Lot's of info on the internet for them to compare. Good for them.
