Actually, it was Grant's wife that made the command decision on this matter. Mrs. Grant and Mrs. Lincoln did not get along very well, to put it mildly. But, if you are a conspiracy theorist who has had a close encounter of the third kind facts are not necessarily the defining aspects of the cognitive results of your synaptic transmissions.

Not sure if conspiracy theorists have synaptic transmissions. Booth however probably was not the one shot in the barn.

So where is John St. Helen's body now?  There are male descendants of the Booth family alive now so it would be easy to prove or disprove this theory.  My guess is that it has all the veracity of the stories about the survival of Grand Duchess Anastasia Nikolaevna.

I hereby nominate this thread for the TDOTY Award.  I give myself credit for starting the thread drift, but Doc took it to a new level!  Way to go, Doc!  You da Man!

What's in a number?   Saul is the 18th Ohio HC.  U.S. Grant was the 18th president of the United States.  Grant was the man who took the Union Army "to the next level" and victory in the War of the Rebellion.  Perhaps, Saul will be the guy to truly take OHIO to the next level.  Might be stretching for something here, but come on guys and gals you'd all be upset if I couldn't figure out at least one Civil War parallel here.

Using this same logic, however, Jim Christian was our Andrew Johnson (did he leave before we could impeach him?). John Groce would be our Lincoln, and I do think many dealt with his departure like a death, which of course came on the heels of such triumph. The question is, is Tim O'Shea our James Buchanan? He wasn't universally loved, kind of felt like he hated the job. The difference being Buchanan was a lifelong bachelor whereas O'Shea seemed to be controlled by the desires of his wife.

Buchanans home was a great stop on the summer of fun last year. Interesting the bachelor raised a neice who had been orphaned and acted from 1857 ...as the first lady.  Just pointing out that the President had some female influence in the WHite house and through out his life ....she was said, during her tenure,  to be every bit as popular as Jackie Kennedy had been in hers.

Fascinating thread.

Comparing our coaching changes to the presidency........only on BA would basketball fans tolerate such erudite discussions.

never argue with idiots, they bring you down to their level and beat you with experience.

would Jim Christian be our Lyndon Johnson?

Took over after young, popular leader is suddenly gone, ghost of the previous administration weighs heavy on his legacy in spite of significant accomplishments, serves for surprisingly short amount of time, lacks charisma and media savvy of predecessor but has more experience, likes to pick up dogs by their ears. Ok, the last one might have been LBJ only.

and if JC is our LBJ then is Groce our JFK? is Akron our Viet Nam? is DJ Cooper our Bobby Kennedy?

It's actually a ton better than it was in the 60s and 70s.

Thanks for helping this thread win the TDOTY Award . . . bringing up Vietnam and comparing that war to our war with the Roo is at least worth double points.  You guys and gals are good!

We already have HR Haldeman in place for the next administration.

Dale Bandy was our Hoover who presided over the stock market crash and beginning of Great Depression.  Then,  Danny Nee became our FDR with a New Deal for Bobcat basketball.

Would the best presidential parallel for Tim O'Shea not be Franklin Pierce?

I understand your logic, but to me he might be more like John Tyler, a man never really accepted by his fellow citizens as a legitimate president.

Tyler was actually the first one I thought of, but I wasn't sure if anyone would agree.

I think there are also similarities with Taylor. I'm having too much fun with this. (Don't ask me who I think Larry Hunter is.)
