If you don't have TWC, and you have DirecTV, is streaming the game on ESPN3 an option?  I have TWC, but a bar we're trying for a game watch at does not.  Trying to find out how best to get the game on.

ESPN3 is not an option for your area. Most of Ohio is blacked out.

Thank you Jeff.  That's just fantastic.  I'm sure I should have noticed that in threads throughout the year, but I have not because of having TWC, or going to most home games.

I have DirecTV, and that has been a killer for watching our team this year. I can get on ESPN3 with a Time Warner login that belongs to my parents (DirecTV people cant even get on ESPN3 at all!), but then it always says the game is blacked out in my area. I guess it assumes that since I have Time Warner, I can just watch it online. But I cant. Even the sports bars near me are DirecTV only, so I am so out of luck.

Is the MAC having its option this year where a person can buy a single-game package to watch online? As annoying as that is, at least it means I can watch the games.

Living in Cincinnati, it's impossible to get to Cleveland before Friday. I'd love for our boys to somehow win three games so I
 could join them...

Columbus Crew fans are now in the same boat as MAC fans. Some very irate, passionate fans not happy that the Crew has left FSO Ohio for a 2-year contract w/ TWC. Can't say that I blame them as a Bobcat/MAC/Crew fan with TW.

Crew deal might be a good one for us - maybe that'll get them some leverage to increase their carriage.

Also, I'd expect DirecTV to have ESPN3/WatchESPN by the end of the year.

Remember, even when you don't get TWCS and you're living in an ESPN3/WatchESPN blackout zone that the mac-sports.com portal still provides live streaming of all the games (quality varies widely)

The only thing I've been saying about both of these situations is that it's entirely possible that TWC was the only real option they had.  I don't know that to be sure, but I can't see moving to TWC if there were other reasonable options on the table.

The MAC office has done a horrible job selling their product for hoops.  ESPN3/Watch ESPN is not even an option for me since our cable company isn't one of the negotiated providers with ESPN.  The webcast of each game is almost unwatchable most times. I go to all the home games, but can't make it to all the road games.  Thanks goodness for Russ and Rob since I'm not able to watch most of the time.   I think the MAC is either a much less desirable product than I give it credit for, or the front office sucks at sales.  How do we not have a better TV deal?

I think the MAC office was looking for an outlet that would put the MAC on a higher priority.  On FSN, the MAC would bein the pecking order behind the Big East, the Horizon, the Cavs, the BJs, the Reds & Indians (football season) and God knows who else.  The problem is the damn blackout provision.  They cut off a lot of their market with it.

We were getting the ESPN3 feeds on our TWC internet connection until about two weeks ago.  Now we're blacked out on those.  I tried firstrow for Saturday's game vs Fiami and it wasn't there either (that was before I found that Fiami was streaming it for free).  I'd rather just listen to the radio feed than take TWC's crappy cable service.

FSO Ohio has stated that it wanted to keep the Crew, which would have been much better for Crew fans. FSO Ohio did not say what it offered so I have to believe the Crew got a better deal from TWC. This same article mentioned a blackout for all games for people living w/in a certain radius of Ohio, I think it was 75 miles. However, I was able to watch the Crew's opener Saturday even though I live w/in the stated radius.

I have DirecTV and I have ESPN3 access. In Cincinnati, if you sign up for Cincinnati Bell internet and combo it with DirecTV you can still get it. Problem is, ESPN3 still blacks out the Ohio games the same way.

I think it's insane that these games are blacked out across the state. However, if you're a little tech savvy there are a few ways to watch these games, and any other events subject to blackout due to location.

You can use a proxy server to mask your IP address. There are some free ones out there, but I don't know how reliable they are.

The option I use is virtual private network (VPN). They do a lot of different things to encrypt and protect your data, but the most important for this is they also allow you to mask your IP address by connect to the internet through one of their servers across the world. This does slow down your internet connection, but I've never had a buffering issue or anything with it. I pay for 50MBps internet, and my speeds slow down to around 25-30MBps when I'm connected to the VPN. I subscribe to Private Internet Access. It's $39.95 for a year or $6.95 for a month. It took me about five minutes to set up, and I use it all the time to watch blacked out ESPN3 and MLB.TV games. It was also great during the Olympics to watch the CBC streams from Canada because they were much better than the NBC ones here.

The final option is to use a location spoof on your phone or tablet. There are some free ones available for both OSs. I think there are ones for Android you can download right from the Google Play store and they'll work (I think Fake GPS Location is a good one). For iPhones/iPads you'll need to have a jailbroken device and download an app from Cydia. Once you have an location spoofing app, you just set it up to show you're outside Ohio or in another country altogether. Then you'll be able to watch all the blacked out games. You can also use an Apple TV or Chromecast to stream from your phone/tablet to your TV.

Streaming has been inconsistent at best, but hopefully with a central game location for the tournament the MAC tech department can come together and present something of quality.

I had primestar that got bought by Directv. About the time that I decided to switch ( I live where no cable will ever run) to ATT uverse off the microwave tower internet I had,  I found that OHIO was best located on Directv sports pack and I could record the games and watch them when I got home. With the Uverse and Direct  I can get the games on ESPN but it means going upstairs to my kid's Xbox and kicking him off (and having to endure his smelly sweatsox in the clothes hamper)

Not happy about it but I am back to liking my Direct and am hoping the MAC folk get enough complaints to figure it out.

That's the only think I don't like about DirecTV. No WatchESPN access and although I do have access to ESPN3 through my Internet provider, it's not of much use anymore.

I see there's a link on firstrow sports for tonight's MAC tourney games.  They've changed their URL; it's now gofirstrowus.eu.

Why not just watch it through the MAC Digital Network link provided in the official game thread?

Yeah, definitely meant WatchESPN for Direct, not 3, as they aren't an ISP. My bad.

The blackout, I've said before, I'm sure is not the MAC's, but rather TWC's. They want you to call your provider and demand they carry the channel. If you get the channel, they want you watching their ads, not ESPN's. I'm fairly sure FS-O did the same, but we didn't really notice because it is widely distributed.

The pregame show is on the MAC website for free.  Maybe the game will be too.
