If you need a football fix, Montreal/Edmonton is on ESPN2 right now, and Chip Cox just got some love. Leading the league in tackles.

EDIT: I thought it was Toronto/Edmonton at first.

Not only leading the league in tackles, but on a pace to shatter the league record.

You know, the Canadian announcers got his school's name right ("eighth year out of Ohio"); why can't the U.S. announcers do it?

You know, I've always liked the Canadian game. When I was growing up in Ohio's Great Northwest, we could get some Canadian TV stations when the atmospherics were right, and occasionally caught CFL games. With all the rule differences from the US game, the CFL is interesting and fun to watch. For instance, in tonight's game Edmonton was up by one and Montreal punted it toward the coffin corner. The ref initially signaled that the ball went into the end zone, which would've given Montreal a point to tie the game, but then was overruled and the ball was spotted at the two. Edmonton's coach challenged the call, even though they would've lost the lead if the ball had gone into the end zone. He was willing to give up the tying point in order to gain field position. They lost the challenge, and a timeout that would've been handy at the end of game.

And wasn't it great seeing Chip Cox make the initial hit on Edmonton's running back on the last play of the game? Slowed him down enough for the rest of the D to bring down in the backfield. Good job, Chip.

Chip Cox stopped the runner on the last play of the game, saving the win for his team.

I watched about an hour of that game last night. It was good to be watching football again.

The last thing I expected when I turned on the TV (which was already tuned to ESPN2) was to see Dan Hawkins coaching a game
