FYI

All ESPN Channels were removed from my YouTube TV menu overnight. I subscribe annually to the ESPN Select Account. What I didn't know until this morning is that plan does not include access to LIVE ESPN Channels such as ESPN, ESPN+, etc.

I will need to upgrade to the ESPN Unlimited Plan to get the live streams. This sucks. That means I would go from an annual amount of $128 to $299!

I think I can just buy 1 month of ESPN Unlimited and change back at the end of that month OR roll the dice they settle. I guess I could also switch TV Providers but I am holding tight for now.

I hope my current ESPN Select Plan still includes access to OUr Bobcat football and basketball games. This access is the only reason I bought the ESPN Select Plan.

I worked for a telecom for 20+ years, and the annual content battle was a joke.

Update: The Tuesday game against Fiami is on ESPN2. Thus, I will not be able to watch if these dipsheets don't settle by then (or go to a sports bar).

I've had it with two sides blaming each other in a negotiation while the consumer gets screwed. About an hour ago, I cancelled YouTube TV and got Fubo.

Yes, and ESPN+ too.

I remember cancelling cable like 7-8 years ago, I got on the YouTubeTV train very early on and $35 was a steal.

Fast forward to today, I couldn't even tell you what I pay in random subscriptions these days. YouTubeTV. Netflix. HBO. Hulu. Disney. ESPN. Amazon. Peacock. Paramount. F1 TV. Apple. Probably north of $200-$300 bones.

LOL. I'm the reason this is happening. Because there a ton of people like me too lazy to care to cancel.

Bring back Cable/Satellite. They duped us away from a reliable infrastructure and just heaped on to our web based world.

I saw a quote regarding apps/social media the other day and I get it out of my head.

Paraphrasing, but the people who invented all this crap have run out of ideas so now they just keep doing these small tweaks to stay relevant and keep the infrastructure alive. This is all going to come crashing down in a big way. The hype train stopped running out of coal a long time ago.

I actually cancelled a lot of my subscriptions a while back and opted for Comcast just to see if it would save me any money and it didn't. The cable companies are still charging enormous fees to get local sports broadcasts and tack it on as a hidden fee under their "sale" price. What I thought was going to be $75/month for cable ended up being like $120. It's a complete joke.

I won't subscribe to anything ESPN related b/c IMHO they are to sports what Wal-Mart is to retail. You can figure that one out. There are a lot of other ways out there to find this stuff but it's all a pain-in-the-rear. At the end of the day the one constant is the good ol' radio.

No one under 40 can tolerate the idea of "flipping through channels." They just want to pick a show or movie and run with it.

But this can be done thru cable & Satellite. On-Demand and robust DVR / Restart options were being mastered right around the time the streamers took over the world.

I'm 44. I loathe streaming, always have always will. Logging in, validating devices, buffering...I deal with enough of that crap at work. Just let me turn my damn TV and watch the thing.

I don’t even really watch TV. I always liked YouTubeTV cause I can record every stupid movie on any channel. So it’s just become Netflix x2 in my house. I only ever live watch ESPN. love me some Sam Houston vs LA Tech football. And Formula 1, but that’s heading to Apple now too so maybe I just talked myself into canceling cable again soon? Lol

Stupid sarcastic old movies? That new National Lampoon movie channel on the Roku app has them. They do things like show all three Beverly Hills Cop movies in a row. Best thing? Free.

They made their own bed with their price hikes and lousy service. They have no one to blame but themselves. Directv was one of the best companies out there. Then at&t bought them and ruined them. Literally turned them into dicks. then at&t bailed but the damage was done.

The final straw with me for cable was a few years ago when Spectrum moved CBS Sports from their regular sports package to another package that would have required me to subscribe for about $30 additional a month to another package with about 25 additional channnels I had no interest in just to retain CBSSN. As you said, they made their bed and now they have to lay in it. IMHO, the only way cable can survive for even another decade is to develop a totally a la carte system, or least as much as possible with FCC "must carry" rules for local and sometimes regional channels. Now, I'm a happy camper with Hulu with every sports channel imaginable (including ESPN+) for about half what I was paying Spectrum per month.

Spectrum did increase what I pay for internet when I dropped their cable services. Frontier Fiber is now available in many places in Athens, including a block away from my house. As soon as they come up the street, Spectrum will be history!

I get that but the stuff that is offered through devices is often just what is on linear tv. The people that still watch sitcoms, late night, or whatever now don't even know it actually airs over-the-air. They just stream on Hulu or whatever. I don't get why you have buffering though. I live in BFE and just an antenna and a Roku and have no problems.

I'm not going to make any changes until Monday afternoon at the earliest. The TV services always seem to butt their horns together for a couple of days then reach an agreement quickly.

I used to value when cable packages with slip in Showtime or Starz for cheap but now the free streaming apps with "old" shows now have quality series made in the 2000s and 2010s that are higher quality in many cases than what is made today.

I hate this. My response is to go out to a bar for games on CBS Sports instead of pay for the monthly subscription.

One of the things I do is use dummy emails and a Wal-Greens (or any place) bought credit card to get the free trials of services for 7 days. Hasn't failed me nearly 15 years. I'm just up to like my 22nd Gmail account but that's all I use the dummies for.
