Oliver, Buffalo defense overwhelm Ohio

Running back's 249 yards more than Bobcats' 233

AMHERST, N.Y. - Ohio was held to 233 yards, a total surpassed by Buffalo running back Branden Oliver and the Bulls ran away from the Bobcats in the second half for a 30-3 victory Tuesday night at University at Buffalo Stadium.

Though replay shows he threw from the 4-yard line, quarterback Tyler Tettleton was called for intentional grounding in the end zone, resulting in a safety for a 9-3 lead for Buffalo in the third quarter, and momentum shifted fully in favor of the Bulls after that.

Oliver scored on a 13-yard run after a short field following the free kick, and Alex Neutz added two touchdown receptions as Buffalo (7-2, 5-0 Mid-American Conference) remained atop the MAC East standings and virtually eliminated Ohio from league championship game contention.

The MAC took a rare step in issuing a statement noting that officials got the call wrong. It also admitted that replay should have overturned a supposed Matt Waters' fumble in the first half as Ohio was driving with a chance to take the lead.

Oliver, who finished with 249 yards on 34 carries, scored the game's first points with a 2-yard touchdown run in the second quarter. It was answered by Ohio with a Josiah Yazdani 23-yard field goal in the final minute of the half.

Neutz caught four passes for 79 yards. Quarterback Joe Licata was 13 of 22 for 169 yards.

Beau Blankenship carried 20 times for 68 yards for Ohio (6-3, 3-2 MAC). Tettleton was 14 of 31 for 126 yards.
