Bowling Green pounds offensive boards in win over Ohio

Falcons jump out to 18-point halftime lead

ATHENS - Bowling Green dominated the final 12 minutes of the first half and used that big advantage to take a 76-65 victory against Ohio on Tuesday night at The Convo.

A Treg Setty layup with 12:11 to go before halftime put Ohio ahead 14-13 before Bowling Green (18-8, 10-5 Mid-American Conference) outscored Ohio 27-8 to go up 40-22 at the break. The Bobcats shot just 33.3 percent in the first half before warming up too late in the second 20 minutes.

Maurice Ndour had 23 points and seven rebounds, and Antonio Campbell posted another double-double with 14 points and 12 rebounds. Stevie Taylor had 12 points and five assists. Javarez Willis had only three points in nine minutes, forced to the bench with a sprained ankle.

"It's frustrating," Ohio coach Saul Phillips said. "I don't like it. Nobody likes it. It's not like we have two easy ones coming up. Go in and fight, play with some pride. Period."

Bowling Green finished with 18 offensive rebounds, including six by Richaun Holmes, who went just 3-of-12 but scored 11 points. Spencer Parker finished with 19 points and 10 boards, and Jehvon Clark had 13 points and seven rebounds. Those 18 offensive rebounds led to 21 second-chance points, compared to 10 by Ohio (9-17, 4-11 MAC).

The Falcons' biggest lead was 62-39 with 9:37 remaining. The Bobcats had an 8-0 run to get within 70-60 with 2:49 remaining after a Khari Harley steal led to a Setty dunk, but Ohio did not score again until there were 46 seconds left and got only as close as nine on a Taylor 3-point play six seconds after that.

"At the end of the day, we still have the (MAC) tournament, so that's the third season," Taylor said. "We just have to try and build momentum heading into the tournament and see what happens."

Ohio plays Akron at 8 p.m. Friday at James A. Rhodes Arena in a game that will be featured on ESPNU.
