Huge 2nd half carries Bobcats past Seahawks

Ndour has 23 points, 10 rebounds


ATHENS, Ohio - A huge second half helped Ohio pull away from UNCW for a 72-53 victory Tuesday night at The Convo.

Trailing 34-30 at halftime, the Bobcats (5-6) outscored the Seahawks 42-19 after the break.

Maurice Ndour scored 15 of his 23 points in the second half and finished with 10 rebounds and four blocks. Javarez Willis scored 12 points with five assists, and Antonio Campbell and Mike Laster had 11 points apiece.

Addison Spruill led the Seahawks (5-6) with 16 points. Craig Ponder added 13 points.

UNCW led by as many as seven points in the first half, but Ohio turned things quickly in the second half, coming out with a 9-0 run to take a 39-34 lead. UNCW tied the game at 39 and later trailed by just one with 14:48 remaining when the Bobcats scored 16 straight points during a stretch of seven and a half minutes.

Treg Setty had a tough 1-for-7 shooting night but had 12 rebounds for Ohio. Ryan Taylor was just 2 of 7 but contributed five assists.

Ohio shot 45.6 percent for the game, while UNCW finished at 31.3 percent, including just 17.1 percent (6 of 35) in the second half. After going 4-of-7 on 3-pointers in the first half, the Seahawks were 0-for-8 in the second.

The Bobcats have more than a week off before hosting Northern Illinois to begin Mid-American Conference play at 7 p.m. Jan. 7 at The Convo.
