George Washington pulls away in 2nd half

Bobcats go cold in 2nd half in Hawaii

HONOLULU - Ohio shot only 25 percent in the second half, and George Washington rolled past the Bobcats 77-49 in the opening round of the Diamondhead Classic in the Stan Sheriff Center.

The Bobcats (3-5) made just 7-of-28 attempts after halftime, allowing the Colonials (7-3) to pull away after they led 43-34 at halftime.

Ryan Taylor scored all 13 of his points in the first half to lead Ohio, and Javarez Willis had all nine of his points before the break. Maurice Ndour had just eight points and five rebounds.

Kevin Larsen led four George Washington players in double-figures with 19 points and 15 rebounds. Kethan Savage had 18 points, Patricio Garino finished with 15 points and John Kopriva had 10 points.

Ohio trailed 55-45 with 11:51 remaining after an Antonio Campbell basket, but things got out of hand after that. George Washington scored 12 straight points before a Campbell jumper finally ended the run at the 6:11 mark. Campbell had another layup to account for all of Ohio's points in the final 12 minutes, during which George Washington held a 22-4 advantage.

The Colonials started fast. After Treg Setty scored the first points, George Washington scored 11 in a row. Ohio got back in it with an 8-0 run of its own, and the third Willis 3-pointer at the 8:00 mark made it 26-24. Another 8-0 George Washington run, though, helped it take control again.

Both teams shot 50 percent or better in the first half before cooling off, especially the Bobcats.

George Washington had fewer turnovers, 14-8, and more offensive rebounds, 15-8.

Ohio plays the loser of DePaul and Colorado at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday.
