Ohio dominates 2nd half against Longwood

Bobcats hold 46-15 advantage after break


ATHENS – Ohio made its first six 3-pointers of the second half and rolled past Longwood, 78-43, on Monday night at The Convo.

Leading just 32-28 at halftime, the Bobcats (9-3) outscored the Lancers 46-15 in the second half.

Nick Kellogg scored 17 points to lead six Ohio players who finished with nine or more points. T.J. Hall had 14 points and Ricardo Johnson and Stevie Taylor tallied 11 apiece.

Jeylani Dublin led the Lancers (5-9) with 14 points, while Tristan Carey, entering with an average of 20 points per game, was held to seven.

Taylor got Ohio’s second half going with a 3-pointer on the opening possession. Maurice Ndour, who finished with 10 points, added a dunk and a layup to extend the lead to double digits.

Ohio’s lead was just 45-34 after a Dublin jump shot at the 16:09 mark, but Longwood scored only nine points the rest of the half.

Longwood held an early 5-4 lead but fell behind 28-18 with 6:10 left in the first half on a Hall 3-pointer. The Lancers scored six straight points to get back in and were within four at halftime.

For the game, Longwood finished 16 of 51 (31.4 percent) from the field and 9 of 14 from the foul line. Ohio was 25 of 61 (41.0 percent) and 18 of 27 on free throw tries. The Bobcats had 18 offensive rebounds to five for the Lancers and both teams committed 12 turnovers.

Ndour and Jon Smith had nine rebounds each and combined for five blocks. Johnson added seven rebounds and Kellogg had six. Taylor dished out six assists.

Ohio plays its final non-conference game at 2 p.m. Saturday at UNC Asheville.
