Ohio received its final commitment of its 2017 recruiting class with Ripon, Wisconsin, forward Bennett Vander Plas announcing on Twitter he selected the Bobcats following a recent campus visit.

The 6-foot-7 senior-to-be joins 6-9 Akron Ellet forward AJ Gareri and 6-4 guard Zach Butler from South Carolina in the recruiting class.

According to the Ripon Commonwealth Press, Vander Plas chose Ohio over Division I offers from Green Bay, Milwaukee, IUPUI, Memphis, Loyola of Maryland, Bucknell, American and Wright State.

Vander Plas averaged 20.6 points, 11.4 rebounds and 3.8 assists per game and was named the East Central Conference Player of the year as a junior. He shot 47 percent from the field and was second in 3-pointers made on his team, which finished 17-8.

Gareri, Butler and Vander Plas will replace 2016-17 Ohio seniors Antonio Campbell, Kenny Kaminski and Wadly Mompremier.

Vander Plas’ commitment came only a few days after Butler, who is a combo guard who could be in line eventually to replace Jaaron Simmons at point guard with no other true scholarship point guards on Ohio’s roster.

Butler, from Spartantburg Dorman High School, reportedly had offers from Hofstra and Murray State, among others. He is expected to play his high school senior season at Oldsmar Christian in Florida.

Gareri was Ohio’s first commit, pledging to the Bobcats at the end of June. He passed on offers from Bowling Green, Toledo and Kent State.

As a junior, Gareri averaged 22.3 points per game and was honorable mention All-Ohio in Division I. Like Vander Plas, Gareri has shown an all-around game that included an average of 4.6 assists per game and 41 3-pointers during his sophomore season.

Players cannot sign letters of intent until the early signing period begins Nov. 11.
