In an athletic department press release, Ohio junior forward Tony Campbell announced his intention to declare for the 2016 NBA Draft. He will not hire an agent in order to retain his NCAA eligibility for his 2016-17 senior season.
"The new rules pertaining to the draft are of great benefit to the student-athlete," Saul Phillips is quoted as saying in the release. "Tony is smart to utilize these rules to evaluate his standing as well as receive input as to how he can continue to develop as a player. Because he has not hired an agent, he can withdraw from the draft at any point. We are extremely supportive of Tony’s decision."
"I’m grateful to Ohio University for allowing me to go through this process to see where I stand entering the NBA Draft," said Campbell in the release. "By not hiring an agent, it leaves the door open for me to return for my senior season with the Bobcats."
Campbell was recently named as a 2015-16 Associated Press Honorable Mention All-American. That followed him being named Mid-American Conference Player of the Year. Campbell averaged 17.1 points and 10.2 rebounds this year for the Bobcats.
The 2016 NBA Draft will be held on June 23. The deadline to remove your name from the draft and keep eligibility is May 25th.
